Jazz And Speaker Placement

Jazz And Speaker Placement
I live in an apartment in NYC. My floor must be soundproofed because I can turn it up loud and the couple downstairs say that they don’t hear anything. But I think a sub would be a bridge too far.
Jazz And Speaker Placement
Zlone, I spent years fearing boomy bass. I never actually heard any, but Stereophile warned me about it and if Stereophile said it was a problem then it must be. So I pulled the speakers out as far as I could. (Which wasn’t far.) Not much bass. (W...

“Trust your ears.””If it sounds good to you that’s all that matters.”I can hear it being shouted from the rooftops. I knew that was the answer before I made that post and, as I listen to this system sound more and more gorgeous than it ever has, m...
CD Player Tweak
I did it. It works. First the cables, now this. My inborn skepticism is taking a hit.

Subs And The Downstairs Neighbors
If I had the money for the reference series, lots of things would change. Aren’t those $10K? I would really have an issue spending that kind of money on a stereo. Morals? Inborn sense of frugality? I don’t know. I do know that I just hit 96 db on ...
Subs And The Downstairs Neighbors
Thanks to all those who tried to answer an impossible question. A few reactions: -The new KEF mini-sub is the answer to all my problems. But $1600? I just don’t have it. Same issue with the larger KEFs. -I’m sure the sub dude is a good product but...
Magico M9 The new 'norm' in speakers
I don’t know if a new reply will bring an old thread to life but please permit a question from a sojourner in these parts: Who or what is Kenjit? The Kenjit Society? How has he risen above the proletarian masses of Audiogon users to merit his own ...

I bought Noica for my upcoming project. $12 got me enough to do 8? 10? CD players. Maybe NAD raises their prices by a buck. I don’t think that’s what’s driving their decision. Why is Noico hard to apply? Or take more time than the average stuff?
CD Player Tweak
I’m not worried about which material to use. I am wondering why, if vibrations need dampening and it’s so easy and cheap to do so, doesn’t NAD do it in the first place.
Buying advice
I know that the speaker cables I’m talking about are very cheap by audiophile standards. But until the Arcam seller talked me into making some kind of investment, I was leader of the “cables don’t matter” army. Wanna know something else? After I h...
Buying advice
Wow. Tough talk. But well appreciated. Part of me thinks that bad cables might help. Cable makers and reviewers go on and on about transparency and clarity. I want less of those things. Maybe I’d be better off with lamp cord.
Speakers The single most critical component
I’m sorry. My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek as I wrote that. I wasn’t seriously questioning you or the laws of physics. Although, without ever seeing it, I have to wonder what an interior decorator would say about your room.
Speakers The single most critical component
I feel like I’m watching a breakdown in slow motion. I’m worried about mozartfan. Sure audiophiles are an eccentric lot. Sure they have strong opinions. But he seems to have crashed through the guardrails. Should Audiogon do something? Call the co...
