Learned something new today and it isn't good.
I learned about the practise of applying "pre-emphasis" to CDs that was around during the late '70's and early '80's Late 70s eh? The first CD player came out in 1982.
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options?
@tonywinga A couple of years ago I watched a Peter Townsend video demonstrating his speaker platforms That would be surprising. Pete Townshend is the guitarist for the Who. The gentleman who made the Podiums was Max. No relation. https://hifi...
Stereophile Scamming Subscribers?
This happens with all magazines I've ever subscribed to. Just went through the same thing with The New Yorker. Offers vary from $60 to hundreds of dollars a year. They do send you a nice tote bag though.
Only two tracks to test your system, forever!
This thread for me confirms easily the worst thing about audiophiles: their taste in music. Of course the answers are going to be middle-of-the-road audiophile-approved pap like Patricia Barber and Diana Krall. And yes, let's not forget Flight of ...
Primaluna or not Primaluna
ne of the best amps and most beautiful I heard was from a company called Margules and it’s exactly what you were asking for, 50 watts/ch pure class A with KT88’s... And get this Margules is made in Mexico City, the company is like 80 years old ma...
WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
I hadn't even heard of Margules amps until I was at an audio show in the spring where a Margules U280SC tube amplifier was driving a pair of six-figure Raidhos. It sounded amazing, and I ended up purchasing the 30th-anniversary edition of the amp....
Is blasphemous Music ok?
Because there are no gods, blasphemy is the ultimate victimless crime. Blaspheme away.
When a budget speaker is preferred to a high end one...
For my office setup, I owned (consecutively) both version 1 and version 2 of the venerable KEF LS50 wireless speakers. Was happy with them at first but after a while they began to grate and sound fatiguing. Sold both and bought a pair of LSA Signa...
The new LSA Signature 50 Monitor "Disruptive Product"
I have a pair of LSA Signature 50s that’s replacing the KEF LS50WIIs I’d grown unhappy with (because of their ultimately harsh/fatiguing top end). Of course the LSAs are passive so I’m driving them with a separate streamer/amp, an NAD C 700. It’s ...
Best and Worst customer service?
NAIM has been pretty terrible. Good luck trying to get a response after you email them with a technical question. Not what I expected after dropping $10K on new NAIM gear. Sony has been even worse. Don’t get me started. In the plus column, I’ve ...
Up to $4000US tower speakers for Jazz and Classical Music
After two years with them, I remain smitten with my Tekton Moabs. They go down to 20Hz and are very efficient, as you require, but much more importantly, they sound like real music. Even recordings with huge dynamics, like a Steve Smith drum solo,...
Ridiculous sale
Apparently TMR is in the “profit” game. Quit a revealing comment. Perish the thought that a business would like to make some money. Jesus Christ dude. Look. TMR has a great website, a slew of employees, a brick-and-mortar store, a dedicated sh...
Axpona 2022 what impressed you?
@Steve59 I can’t justify Raidho or borrensen prices, I love the demos and I expect another six figures driving the speakers helps The Raidhos were driven by a pair of anniversary-edition Margules tube amps that cost $10,000 each but that I bel...
Audiogon is becoming the hub for scammers.
@jji666  wrote: I always work to engage a seller in a substantive conversation about their gear, audio in general, what have you.  Scammers are not usually capable of holding that conversation in a way that doesn't raise red flags. Exactly th...
Worst Audio Injury !!
I burned my thumb on a hot valve in a tube amp last week.Have hit my head multiple times trying to get up from behind the equipment rack (the sharp edge of a fireplace mantle is right there).Haven't (badly) hurt my back yet but it's probably just ...
