Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
The only problem with FM Acoustics 122 Mk2 phono is it has a max gain of 56db only. While it goes well with its own high gain preamps, it can sound like lacking life and vigour through a regular preamp with 12-18db gain. It is not its true sound, ...

@rauliruegas , I understand the Kondo sound you are talking about. Thankfully the new generation Kondo has starkly moved towards accuracy and bandwidth extension. For example their legendary Ongaku is their old design. Refined, smooth, boring and...

@rauliruegas forget about other Kondo models, they are average. Have you heard the GE10 ? I have heard it in a full FM acoustics system and compared with a FM 222 phono in the same system.
2020 update : JC Verdier La Platine
@pindac since you are using a PTP Solid 9 which I also had. I suggest you replace the aluminum footers it comes with something simpler (steel cone) and also remove the O rings around the platter. These 2 "tweaks" by Peter damps the sound a lot

@pindac you are probably missing the point. We are not talking about speed fluctuation, we are talking about speed correction. Every TT has speed fluctuations and there are different correcting mechanisms. In direct drive like Technics the speed i...
2020 update : JC Verdier La Platine
Personally, I find the SP10MK3 score hi on the "HIFI" criterion, but I start to develop listening fatigue about an hour into the listening session. Many audiophiles would attribute this to the rapid speed correction, so call hunting, of the SP10M...
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
BTW, I have also heard the FM 222 Mk2 extensively in an all FM system. It is very expensive and overall very good sounding too. Neutral and dynamic. But it lacks a bit of that final finesse in flow which allows you to melt into the musical piece. ...

@drbond I have some experience with some of the phonostages you are considering (not all though). I used to own a EMIA CR phonostage and still have the EMIA SUT in my system. I have extensively heard the FM 122Mk2 in couple of my friend's systems....
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
To the OP, Because audiophile deniers are in denial mode
Warm, rich, smooth, 3d tube integrated amp, budget $6000
You should check out Trafomatic Audio amps. Very well designed and musically right sounding amps.
Warm, rich, smooth, 3d tube integrated amp, budget $6000
Octave is not a lush sounding amp. It has a high amount of odd order harmonics. It allows good control on speakers but takes away richness

Rogue integrated amps are all either ultralinear or hybrid. It doesn't have the lush presentation of their ST-100 which has the triode mode option. Skip rogue if looking for integrated
Do you spend more time analyzing the sound of your system, worrying it could be better?
I am as excited when I get a new interconnect as when I get a new vinyl. Appreciating gears and sonics is the nature of this hobby. No one can claim otherwise while discussing on "audio"gon😀   That doesn't mean music is less important. It is th...
McIntosh MC275VI vs Rogue Audio Stereo 100
Btw, the Rogue Stereo 100 had NOS Millard tubes. It is a necessary upgrade. The stock tubes are rather simple and dry sounding
McIntosh MC275VI vs Rogue Audio Stereo 100
I also had both MC275 Mk6 and Rogue ST-100 in my setup driving Tannoy Turnberry SE speakers. MC275 is nice but it is warm and lacks clarity. If you want a warm sounding easy sound, go for it. ST-100 on the other hand is a nice and proper neutral t...
