Please talk me out of buying the Avalon Eclipse +1 to everyone who said "go on a road trip". If you can afford the speakers and the cost of the road trip, make it an adventure. I bought the entry level Avalon NP Evolution 2.0 speakers for my son's system (on a road trip where he agreed to th...
two channel speaker/equipment consultant +1 Fatdaddys and jayctoy comments. It's quite possible that the speakers need a lot more playing time to come to full bloom. +1 inagroove. Learn to trust your own ears on what you like.
Will an Amp change improve my system ? IMHO an amplifier change can really change the system sound. But so can a good preamp. Or a speaker change. Or room treatments. But I don't have any direct experience with any of the components that you currently have, so .... YMMV.

Retirement integrated amp for a “fiscal conservative” Try a tube preamp with a solid state amplifier. Some of the ARC preamps only have a couple of 6H30 tubes. A slice of tube heaven, but greatly reduced tube costs.
Starting my showroom again The internet audio equipment market is wide open to any participant, and equipment made in low cost labor markets offers incredible value to someone who is fiscally conservative. Anecdotally, I have recently spoken with two brick-and-mortar store ...
Do You Buy Speakers Without Hearing Them? When I was working, I traveled a lot for my job. In the late afternoons and evenings, I would visit brick-and-mortar stores to listen to a wide variety of CD players, amps, and speaker combinations. And I read reviews. In the early 90's, I bought ...
It’s all a matter of degree I can long periods with no changes in my system. Sometimes a component fails and I need an alternative for a period of time. Then the merry-go-round starts and I read everything that I can to make a considered choice. I typically buy quality used...
Other factors affecting sound I would suggest a whole house surge suppressor in your main panel. (uses 2 spaces). Secondly, one or two dedicated 20Amp circuits to the site of your equipment stack. Third, I have used rockwool insulation in several recent remodeling projects. I...
Is Nakamichi Receiver 1 and CD Player 2 still worth enough to try and sell? I have sold a variety of used equipment to The Music Room, in Erie, CO, including an older Nakamichi MusicBank MB-1, a 7 disk CD player. I had a similar issue with the CD player. It appeared to be dead when taken out of storage, but I exercised t...
Searching for a Integrated Amp under $2K I would suggest a used NAD M2 integrated amp - 200+ wpc, has built-in DAC, and can accept both analog inputs and several formats of digital inputs including AES/EBU. Was listed as Class A integrated amp by S'phile in the past. List price of $6000...
Thiel CS 2.3 radiator replacement Rob at CSS provided replacement tweeters on Thiel CS2.2 speakers for my pair. Also provided replacements for lost feet. Good service. Recommended.
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it? My favorite: Thiel CS2.2 amber wood speakers. My first true audiophile purchase in the 90's. I enjoyed listening to them for decades. Amps, pre-amps, and sources came and went, but the Thiel CS2.2 speakers were a constant. Just traded them in for... |
