Who was the best jazz guitarist ever? I Saw Albert King live, he was a big impressive man whose guitar had an unforgettable "blues twang". When you heard Stevie Ray Vaughn, you heard that same twang; this identified him as an Albert King protege. Albert was my all time favorite blues ...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp It's quite true that we become acclimated as a result of the slow decline in performance. A tube tester sounds like a good investment, I might get one.
RIP Gil Scott-Heron No Hodu, he was not talking about you. If we stop and think, we know who he was talking about. The people on FDL know who he was talking about. Thanks to the computer, and dumb talk shows, the people he was talking about have identified themselves...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp Believe it or not Tubegroover, my ears are better than any tube tester. I once bought some bargain tubes from Brent Jesse that he told me were as good as the real deal. After listening, I sent them back for the real deal replacement. Since they co...
4-ohm setting with 8 ohm speakers The 4 ohm tap was recommended, the 4 ohm tap sounds better, I use the 4 ohm tap, case closed.
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp In all honesty Tubegroover, I have owned and still own 3 tube pre's. The first was a PV-10 in the mid 80's. My next pre was an Audible Illusions in 92. We moved in 99 and I failed to take the tubes out of the pre's; that's a "no no", movers and tu...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp The last time I counted, there were "eleventy eleven dozen" SS pre's that sounded "tubelike". Are there any SS pre's left that sound SS. The logic of buying a SS pre that sounds "tubelike" eludes me. I'm sure there are many who can enlighten me in...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp Lp newbie, I would not be the least bit bored by any or all of the reasons your setup makes it difficult to have a tube pre.
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp I feel it necessary to qualify my last post. I auditioned SS pre's by CJ and ARC. While I'm a big fan of their tube gear, the SS was "clinical". I think I'm allergic to SS preamps, and maybe I should not have posted.
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp Conrad Johnson, and Audio Research SS, sound like SS; and not particularly good SS.
How do you judge your system's neutrality? Truth is truth is a good place to start. I will attempt to communicate that truth. All measurements must have a standard; that means some components must be designated as neutral. Since I can't think of a scientific method of doing this, these com...
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever? Now that we have thoroughly covered the best, I would like to cover some of the rest. While these guitarists may, or may not fit the jazz category; they are marvelous musicians.Jose Feliciano came to my attention with "Light My Fire". I know his s...
What is Musicality? Recently I made some improvements that have been quite rewarding. When you make improvements in amp and speaker at the same time, it's impossible to tell "who is doing what". Since the sound is much more "musical", I began to ponder that word."Mus...
how close in sound can a tube and ss amp sound ? Unsound, the tube amp has a 4ohm out; which is what I am using, while the SS has no such option. Maybe that is what you are referring to.
how close in sound can a tube and ss amp sound ? Unsound, could you elaborate. My 75 watt tube monoblocks and my 150 watt SS amp are simply interchanged and all else is the same. |
