Is Modern Jazz an Oxymoron?
I concur with Rok on modern jazz.
Is Modern Jazz an Oxymoron?
I saw Miles at a concert when I was going to a company school in Chicago for the entire Summer of 68 (that was  incredible, Chicago was the place to be) and I hooked up with three other guys who were going to the same school. They were from Bed S...

When me and my fellow aficionados first heard Mingus in 1960, we didn't know what to make of him, but kept playing his album "Mingus Ah Um" over and over. The term "musical genius" has been overused, but I got to use it one mo time for Mingus.

Mary_jo, the subject of our conversation was the title of the song "If I should Find You Again", and my interpretation of the title, and your reaction is to my interpretation of that title. While I live in the past you don't. Would you say that is...

Mary_jo, fortunately, or unfortunately whichever the case may be, no one can ever change history.Titles to songs usually have a meaning; that was the meaning that came to my mind, maybe I was wrong, maybe it's irrelevant.

This is my first time hearing Sacha and Barney Wilen on sax; they swing, Sacha sounds a little like Skeeter Best. Skeeter Best really shined on "Blue Funk"; I can't find him as leader.

Frogman, and Alex; how would you guys critique this tune? The reason I'm asking is because my perception of music is so different from that of a musician.      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHold6ylvEM

Why is there no love for Prima Luna?
I love my primaluna monoblocks, but I have 92DB speakers; that could make all the difference in the world. 70 watts per channel work best with efficient speakers.

Thanks for the thought Greyhound; almost but not quite, although that one cut was quite interesting. My tastes are closer to the ancient stuff straight out of the Bush.
Anybody hear both the Coda 07x and the Herron vtsp 360?
As I read through the posts, I realize how I'm so different from most of the people here, and not only do I accept that difference but I luxuriate in it. People here always speak of "sounds" but never "music"; there is a difference. SS no matter...

Each of the artists you picked has a volume of works. Since John Coltrane and Miles have been featured often, I'll choose Dave Brubeck to focus on.        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2AlqTfQ8Mc          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ieHdR...

Gsahaikun, not only do you have exquisite taste in music, but you can actually communicate music into words. We have people here who have good taste in music, but they seem to have a problem communicating that into words, and you can do both? BT...
