Ghosthouse, there is one word you must never leave out when covering Nica, and that word is "Baroness". While she never mentioned it, her presence never left it out, and in the clubs, she was referred to as, "The Baroness"."Aristocracy" was incul...

I wasn't quite in my teens when "Bird" died at Nica's apartment, and nothing but horrible things were said and written about her. Of course I believed them because that was all you got.Now that I can gather all the information, and think for myse...

Ghosthouse, I enjoyed going to "Red Lobster" when men wore jackets and ties there, although they were not required. That made me feel like going to a more expensive place where they were required.Gotta play the hand that's dealt you.

Ghosthouse, the "eyes" tell the story in a photograph; the guys who are looking into the eyes of "Misty Miss Christy", are lost in a trance, including that guy standing next to his girl friend, who (girl friend) is the only person there who is no...

Alex, those are the most incredible photographs of the musicians I have come to idolize; I never knew "Lady Day" was so beautiful.I have a lot of those photographs in many of the books I have."Jazz On The Rocks" is a must have album; it epitomizes...

Now I know why Mr. Andrew Hill's "Spiral" is the newest looking record in my entire collection, although it must have been purchased in the 70's.This music is  slightly reminiscent of that  "Star Wars" band in the far away galaxy beyond distant st...

It's not about the color of one's skin, but the color of one's music; Pepper Adams skin might be white, but his music is "hard-bop" all the way. Check out his solo on Mingus's Moanin.                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__OSyznVD...

Here's the album I have by Andrew Hill; the title is "Spiral", and it looks like I just walked out of the record store with it (no exaggeration).I found it on the tube; I would appreciate some critical analysis.        https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I have one album by Andrew Hill, and it may have been played one time. The fact that I've had it for a long time, and it still looks new, speaks volumes; no I don't remember what it sounds like.

Since I like the hammond B-3 organ, and Bruce Katz is a real mellow fellow on it, I could listen to him all evening long; he stays in a just right groove.  Keep the killers coming Ghosthouse.

Frogman, while you have vindicated yourself, I wouldn't give you two cents for certain other peoples classification of jazz.

Frogman, you have been accused of inventing "strawmen"; these are invented boogy men.Who are these people who considered Dave Brubeck, and Paul Desmond too white?

This was the theme song of St. Louis DJ Leo Cheers, The Man In The Red Vest. He came on after midnight, about the time I would be cruisin with my current honey (both ages 22 approximately). The girl on the cover looked like my high school sweeth...

While archiving my LP's to hardrive I re-discovered "Dave Brubeck". It was like running into a very old friend. He was on a 2 LP set titled "Dave Brubeck's All Time Greatest Hits". This was his quartet with Paul Desmond, on sax; Joe Morello, on ...
