Jazz for aficionados Curtis didn't like the way Nina Simone played the piano; that was not necessarily racist in one sense, but it could have been racist in another sense. The bottom line; it was our gain, if they had liked her, she would have become another boring c...
Jazz for aficionados Can you imagine, Milt Hinton, Herbie Mann, Kai winding & J. J. Johnson as side men backing up a female vocalist? That's when you can count on me to listen intently to the music; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8eP6WG0aDY ht...
Just an observation here, but???????? Tom, like many things in high end audio, it's difficult to explain, but easy to demonstrate.
Just an observation here, but???????? Sleepwalker, Here is a Teac 2 track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vagaEhC567Y
Jazz for aficionados To make a living, Eunice Waymon changed her name to "Nina Simone". The change related to her need to disguise herself from family members, having chosen to play "the devil's music" or "cocktail piano" at a nightclub in Atlantic City. She was told ...
Jazz for aficionados Here is where Mr. PC has to strut his best stuff because this is Oscar Pettifords jam; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcfRksYtwew https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5EwGijmqKc
Jazz for aficionados This was the album everybody bought when it came out. Mr. PC is boss on this album.
Jazz for aficionados I had no idea PC was on "Alexandria The Great" as long as I've had that album, which was purchased shortly after it came out in 64.Now I have the CD, and it doesn't say anything about PC. "Wicki" says PC is on "My one And Only Love"; plus "I'm Th...
Just an observation here, but???????? First off, you want 2 track reel as opposed to 1/4 track; it delivers much more. When you record vinyl or CD's to 2 track, the playback is always better.Tape is such a problem, that I wouldn't recommend getting into reel, but if you can overcome ...
Jazz for aficionados Thanks for the correction Frogman, I thought he was on all the cuts. The great Hank Jones is hardly unknown, and needs no introduction; he's on my favorite cuts.
Just an observation here, but???????? If you have springy hardwood floors, you need a suspension, like a good Sota. I don't think high mass without suspension corrects that problem, but might have other benefits.I have eliminated the need for a suspension by recording reel to reel in...
Jazz for aficionados Roland Kirk was recorded in 1961, and does it have a different feel; "fast hip city", more of the 50's and 60's sound; Richard Wyands piano reflects that. That was when Roland Kirk exploded on the scene, and let us know he was a new force on the ja...
Jazz for aficionados You are extremely observant with good ears Frogman, I was going to point out the same things; especially the Fender Rhodes electric piano.Music reflects the sociological times; that was when you felt safe walking "Up The Street, Round The Corner, ...
Jazz for aficionados This is the last focus on Richard Wyands for me; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWPUKskCv7E&list=PLhz4DmR11tW5gJyd5R0DogH_eGlfhuAhM
Jazz for aficionados I bought this album when it came out in 74; if you notice, it has a sound that's quite different from the 50's and 60's. The focus is on Richard Wyands, a pianist whose name I did not recognize. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU3KI3L2t4g&... |
