Tonearms: Ripoff?
Edgewear, I'm glad you confirmed what I suspected; you can polish a turd from now on, but when you get through, it's still going to be a turd.
Tonearms: Ripoff?
Dave, whether you know it or not, the price of gold is inversely proportioned to the value of the dollar; as the price of gold goes up, the value of the dollar goes down.Since the Lyra Etna is manufactured in Japan, there are a number of factors t...
Tonearms: Ripoff?
When it comes to economics, audiophiles are the dumbest of people, they don't have a clue as to what the price of corn and gasoline have to do with cartridges and everything else; It's called INFLATION.
Tonearms: Ripoff?
The "haves" are not ruining this hobby, they are helping to fund it. Just think about it; if you had a reputation for a good product, and you could build a slighter better product and charge an obscene price for it, that was way over your accepta...
Tonearms: Ripoff?
When funds allow, I'll get the RB 2000 tonearm, which is listed at $2,195.          https://www.needledoctor.com/Rega-RB2000-Tonearm          http://www.rega.co.uk/rb2000.htmlThe reason I'll get this tonearm is because it comes with the Rega RP10 ...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
"No knowledge/wisdom to gain from members." Out of all the reading I've done, I don't believe I've gained any knowledge; what truth that has been revealed amounts to "So what"; that's the way the game is played, run with the big dogs or stay at home.
Basis Turntables: Worth it or Ripoff?
Jperry, you compared Vector 3 to Rega, but you did not give a model number for the Rega.If you are going to compare, could you give model number and price for the two?
Tonearms: Ripoff?
All the reviews like Rega tonearms, they also like Rega TT's; so if you want to listen to music, as opposed to playing with audio toys, that are very easy to mess up, why not use the arm that comes with the table; for example, Basis likes Vector; ...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Dave, I'm looking for what cartridge you eventually decided on, and I can't find it; could you tell us?
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
I have a curiosity that I hope you will engage me in. I am happier than a hog in slop with my cartridge.(that's the cleanest euphemism I could think of at the moment, you substitute your own)Since we all consider the cartridge the most single impo...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Dave, the only way I discovered the cartridge I bought was lean and hyper resolving was to purchase it. Almost everybody recommended it.  One man's lean, is another man's "fast" and resolving.Since it was obviously a good cartridge, it took a long...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Dave, did you say you ended up with the Koetsu; that's resolving and musical as well; definitely not hyper resolving as to be lean.Different words but arrived at the same destination.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Dave I take just the opposite stance as you took below; almost all of the cartridges recommended on this forum are fast and resolving, but not "musical" enough for me; in other words, the favored cartridges sound hard and lean to my ears. "I perso...

Although the McIntosh MC275 costs $6,500. it hasn't gone up relatively in price. Some well known brands are shooting for the rich market, because they have increased prices out of all reason, where people have more money than they know how to sp...
Reel to reel deck directly to power amp ?
That's a very good question Inna, and I hope someone has an answer in regard to the best tape. I have been so glad to get Quantegy 456, that I haven't scrutinized it.I dream of "Maxell EE"; that tape was so good that you could record at 3 3/4 and...
