Audio Research discontinuing lower lines components?
^^^ I don't want to get into a pissing match with you rodman ... but where can you find a suitable building these days in Milan, Tokyo or Berlin for less than "multi-millions?" And by the way, I don't think the employees of ARC are enjoying those ...
Nakamichi/BX-1
If its any help, I bought my Nak DR-3 here on Agon several years ago for a hundred bucks. It was in mint, almost unused condition, and has worked flawlessly ever since.
Should we use ridiculously priced cables to listen to Rap?

Should we use ridiculously priced cables to listen to Rap?
Don't use expensive cables for Rap. Here's the solution:Find the cheapest, foulest sounding unused cables in your "spare" box to beat any Rap album or CD that may find its way into your home over the head until it is unplayable. Then just throw th...

jmcgrogan ...You are comparing the price of a REF-3 to the REF-30? Ha ... that's not a fair comparison. The 2008 price of a REF-3 needs to be compared to the price of a new REF-6. REF-3 ... $10,000.REF-6 ... $14,000. I stick by my inflation point....
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Hello again, Guys ...Good news! After leaving the CD player on repeat 24/7 for several days the two black fuses in the player have finally broken in. Here's what I'm experiencing:The "pinched" and non-musical artifacts of the unbroken in black fus...
How can it be that some old recordings sound sublime?
The problem on the early CD's was not the fault of the digital domain. It was the fault of the, I won't call them recording engineers ... let's call them "sound processing people."  I'm fortunate to have plenty of CD's cut from  master tapes with ...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
^^^ ... I agree bgp24.  The proof of what you're saying is when you hear a CD that's been ripped right off of the master tape with no added digital reverb and very little or no EQ. Just a flat recording one step from the original source. When you ...

You guys are looking in the wrong direction. I bought my first home in 1965. It was brand new in Huntington Beach. Yes ... THAT Huntington Beach, the one close to Newport Beach. I paid a grand total of $20,650 for the home and my payments, countin...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Okay ... Thanks for the suggestions, guys. l'll try flipping the fuses tonight. In the meantime, they continue to burn in with the CD player set on "repeat." While I'm at it, I want all to know that I'm  not trying to disparage SR in the least her...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
David ...You gave me an idea for tomorrow. I'm going to swap the RED fuse in the phono amp for one of the BLACK fuses in the CD player in the morning. There's still something that's not right with the two BLACK fuses in the CD player. In the meant...
Friday Night In San Francisco - best digital version
tostadosunidos ...Thanks for the heads up on Manuel Barrueco. I was unaware of him. I'm checking Ebay for the recording you suggested. I'm a classic guitar nut ... and love Spanish orchestral music as well.
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
^^^ The experience I've had with the RED fuses can be encapsulated in this:  There are NO speakers in the system. In fact ... there is NO system. The music and performers are completely detached from anything and just do their own thing in the roo...
I notice a lot of reviewers buy the sample piece
Hey Taters ... Keep 'em coming. Its entertaining.
How can it be that some old recordings sound sublime?
^^^ Agreed. Redbook CD's can sound wonderful if mastered properly ... as long at the hands are kept off of the reverb knob and the recording is EQed properly.  On the early recordings from the mono era and the golden age of stereo ... I often wond...
