Music that really stirs your emotions
Though my favorite composers are Brahms and Dvorak, it is Mahler's music more than any other composer's that instills in me the feeling I'm experiencing one's deeply personal odyssey. His intermittent bittersweetness and sentimentality are most af...
Suggestion for Brahms
I agree wholeheartedly with Daverz' praise for the Brahms Symphonies conducted by Bruno Walter with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. I did not mention them in the entire set versions above because, as far as I know, they are not available in the s...
Suggestion for Brahms
For the First Piano Concerto, my top choice is the superb Curzon/Szell/London Symphony performance on London/Decca. Another very fine version is with Serkin/Szell/Cleveland Orch. on Sony(cd) or Columbia(vinyl lp).In the Second Piano Concerto, the ...
ADS L-810's way to bright?
After reading this thread, I slightly shook my head and smiled. Years back, a friend of mine had the ADS 810s. The one thing that stays in my memory about them was their brightness. He also owned a pair of 910s, which sounded considerably better b...
Dunlavy SCIV - What amp are you using?
I feed my Dunlavy SC4s with Air Tight ATM-3 monoblocks. Tubes used are Tesla E34Ls, Mullard "boxplate" 12au7s and Brimar longplate 12ax7s.
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
Dave: Now,now, where then would that leave the others here who favor cleaning more as a matter of routine? Just kidding of course. There's plenty of room in this fascinating pastime for those taking the other road to optimal listening pleasure.
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
My position, experiences, impressions and approach to the issue of record cleaning mirror Salectric's to a tee.
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
As I mentioned earlier, if a record does not seem to need cleaning, I leave it alone. Salectric's ears tell him "...the 'uncleaned' record usually sounds better..." Time and again, my ears tell me the same thing.
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
Based on my experiments, I have concluded if a record does not seem to need a cleaning, leave it alone. Like you, I've typically heard treble softening with a number of cleaners, however, when I strictly use a pure alcohol/water blend of 25% to 75...
Japanese Vinyl Pressing
Adding to what Jdaniel says, German pressings of early EMI classical records also can't match up to liveness of British EMIs.
Ortofon Kontrapunkt C vs. Benz L2
I've owned both cartridges(though not presently) at the same time. Please keep in mind my comments are based on their interaction with my own system's components. Though I do not like to use the word neutral (for reasons I won't elaborate on), tha...
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
An entertaining interview to say the least. He doesn't mince words, does he? An interesting point too about FETs having the same measurement curve as 12ax7 tubes. Does he feel FETs sound similar to the 12ax7s? I'd like to mention something about h...
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
Dan, I had already checked your threads. I'll wait for your post to appear in Audio Asylum. Thanks.
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
Nolitan: In response to your question about other phono stages in comparison with the EAR 88pb, check out my experiences in the Amps Preamps forum thread titled "EAR Preamp" by Gabeharty, dated 03/27/08. I should add that I preferred and stayed wi...
