When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Digital has pretty much closed the gap with Analog, for all intents and purposes. I would argue that you can only tell the differences in direct side by side comparisons. Quite frankly, only the reviewers have time for that.I had a chance to hear ...
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
I really like the Element Fire Bookshelf Speaker at RMAF. It's new bass driver was absolutely amazing. The magnet in a sample, separate woofer felt like it weighed seven pounds. The tweeter blended seamlessly with it. Totem claims no crossover, so ...
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
I heard the Merlin's. They consistently sound warm and musical at every show I go to. I especially like the quality and finish. The only bummer is that I'm not too big a fan of the BAM Module (some type of bass alignment filter, that you put betwee...
Vandersteen Treo at RMAF
The Treos sounded pretty good at RMAF. They had the signature Vandersteen sound. Coherent, musical, clean, dynamic and non-harsh... On the other hand, they always seem to Demo Vandersteens with records, so it is hard to tell how the Treos would so...
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
I agree on the AudioPhysic Speakers, such clean dynamic sound out of relatively slender speakers. Although price wise, I think both models were out of the ballpark for me. I like how they seem to disappear."...cursed with too much money."Heh, heh....
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
Any votes for best speaker within $2 to $5k...?Lower priced speakers were a rarity at the show, with the exception of Emotiva. Quite sadly, many feel that if the price is too low, something is wrong with it...I noticed that for better or for worse...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
Guido,I really like the Esoteric Dac's and CD players, albeit out of my budget. Is the K-01 or any of the other gear you liked at RMAF next on your review schedule? All this is off topic -What did you think about the M2 Tech Young 384/32 D/A Conve...
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
Transaudio (Brad), I agree. One of the things that amazed me at RMAF 2011 was that several manufacturers still seemed quite oblivious to the importance of setup. One of the clear audiophile sins seemed to be placing very large speakers in very sma...
Best Speakers at RMAF 2011...?
Bob,I forgot to list the Vandersteen Treo...! Agreed. I thought it sounded pretty good, as well. My only minor complaint is that the once affordable Vandersteen's are roughly $6k or so? I miss the plain old "sock" mesh Vandersteen, from a value st...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
Guido, good to hear from you! For a while, I was worried that I was suffering from listening fatigue from the show, and hearing things. Yeah... setup seems to be super, super important. Even with the best gear, you can't always beat the room acous...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
Hi All,I had the chance to hear the Rowland 625 for a second time, this time at RMAF 2011. I have to say this time I was a little bit disappointed. (The first time at CES 2011, I was wowed. Cannot remember the original setup.)The Rowland 625 was s...
Playback Designs MPD-3
I got a chance to listen the the Playback Designs MPS-3 (CD Player version of the MPD-3) at RMAF 2011. I was both very impressed and slightly disappointed at the demonstration setup. They had an Ampex ATR-100 Tape Deck, an MPS-3, as sources. They w...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
Thanks Guido. I'll see if I can give the 1000M's a listen. It will be tough being in a small city, but maybe I can make it to RMAF this year...Although I think many manufacturer's were attracted to the ICE modules because of their low power usage ...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
Guido,Appreciate your comments, as always. I have the Rowland 201 monoblocks. I like them, but my main complaint is they seem a little bit "sterile". The music seems to have less guts.Just curious, do 1000M's seem to have "soul" like the Rowland 6...
Rowland 625 versus Audio Research DS450
My apologies. I had no idea this thread was revived in July!- Audiozen, Guido or others:Just curious, what are the key sonic differences between the Bel Canto 1000M and Rowland 625, other than raw power...?I'd be curious if anyone has had a chance...
