Will 12 inch subwoofer be enough for an 18x20 room (with 10 ft cielings)
I have not read all the posts but:Will 12 inch subwoofer be enough for an 18x20 room (with 10 ft cielings) In short: no it will not. Most of us has not since 1933 we know that if you want to be able to HEAR a sinus wavelength at 20Hz when you play ...
Bass and the REQ room simulator
Yeah. That room simulation is pretty good.I took my calibrated microphone, REW and measured a friends dedicated 2-ch room. Then I tried the room simulation. Measured the room, listening and speaker position.I got pretty impressed when I saw the exac...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
I am suspecting the common issue between these two ideas is the speaker dispersion: the wide dispersion having a stronger effect on first reflections, the narrower having less impact on reflection points. It is quite possible we do not know what t...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
There is so many variables. We have all different speakers with more or less amount of high frequency output. Some sit with a "full range" tang band 8" and others has more/higher frequencies + added super tweeters. I guess the last example will pro...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
I found too much absorption on the side reflection points over-damped the sound. I opted for Vicoustic Wavewood diffuser/absorbers in that area, which sounded much more balanced than my thick DIY absorber panels. That is good to hear! I love your r...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
I saw a interesting video about carpet and first reflection floor points. Here is a myth to bust! The carpet that we can see as a thin sound absorber do NOTHING to the first reflection point on the floor.Instead what the carpet do is that it absorb ...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
First, to the extent that absorption is more effective at short wavelengths than at long ones, it will change (darken) the spectral balance of those first reflections. That may still be a worthwhile net improvement if the room is overly reflective...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
Of course quantity trumps. If you have 6 or 40 panels. 40 is 6.66 times more area than only 6 panels. And when a reflection is more than reflecting one time. Let say it bounces 3 times before it is so week that it is -60 dB.Then we have 6.66 times x...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
Duke, that's a great post you made there. I can only agree. :)
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
Yeh Brad that is a very valid point! Some horns are symmetrical some have more width than height. That gives narrower spread up and down. And will result in less issues with ceiling and floor first reflection points. That I have experienced.Eric I ...
Interesting discovery when my carpets were cleaned yesterday!
Regarding safty:One aspect that are seldom talked about is how manufacturer determine no of degrees when the tipping point occur. When a stand manufacturer test their stands (with speaker it of course change) they just tip them until they get to th...
Dedicated Vinyl system next upgrade?
@miostyn that is great!Yes that is WHY we need or the great benefit with being able to adjust VTA while you play the record! (On the fly) because as you say our audio memory is not that long..For example this after market tone arm can do that part...
Dedicated Vinyl system next upgrade?
mijostyn. It is good that you like your setup regime of SRA. There is always room for improvements. For me is that a suboptimal procedure and explains why you do not put that much care in my opinion to it that it may deserve. Don't get me wrong I a...
Dedicated Vinyl system next upgrade?
Regarding tonearm.If/when try to get one there you can get added functionality. Otherwise you get just the same and probably only little better in some regards. One added functionality that will generate better sound quality is if you can get one w...
Dedicated Vinyl system next upgrade?
@paulgardner NP thanks for the clarification. Then we know that you have reached your maximum of treatment as I said before. ;)Then it is time to measure and identify issues and solve them with a little DSP in the signal path between preamplifier ...
