Ortofon 2M Black vs, Clearaudio Maestro
Sabocat59I have my 2m black on a vpi scout. Before the black I had a virtuoso. Although both are fine carts, I like the black better with this particular turntable. I have a cj pv-15 tube preamp if that's helpful. The virtuoso I found to be a bit ...
Cartridge fresh out of the box
2-18-09: CerrotBut, when he plays mono, the level is the same. Couldn't one of the grounds on the cartridge be loose?Actually, he said he put on a mono record and hit the mono button on his amp. I'm thinking the mono button on an amp is just going...
Clearaudio cartridges in Germany
Wow. Tonstudio is showing the Virtuoso for $586 US and Needle Doctor has it for $875. How tough is it to order carts from Germany to North America? Are there duties involved? Are they even allowed to ship to North America?
Looking for guidance with older VPI HW-19 tables
This is a great discussion about a fine table. VPI's Harry Weisfeld was asked over at VinylAsylum how the 19IV ranks with VPI's current tables and he had this answer:The 19 MK-4 was one of my favorite tables, I would put it between a Scoutmaster a...
Ortofon 2M Black vs, Clearaudio Maestro
Bobgates, I see the 2M Bronze is up for sale. Just wondering why you are letting it go and what you have planned for the future? I have no doubt the Bronze is a fantastic cart.
Ortofon 2M Black vs, Clearaudio Maestro
>>As the reviewer John Crossett stated in his Soundstage review he liked the 2M Black better than the more expensive Clearaudio Maestro.<<Actually, the review says the Maestro is the best MM he has heard:Quote: The Ortofon 2M Black doe...
Ortofon 2M Black vs, Clearaudio Maestro
Some interesting thoughts Tayofiji. If cost is the main concern, I don't think either one of these would be the best choice. Neither one is a screaming good deal. The Crossett review says the Maestro is the best moving-magnet he's ever heard. As y...
Ortofon 2M Black vs, Clearaudio Maestro
Needle-doctor shows the 2M Black at $669 and the Maestro is $1000. Stylus replacement on the 2M Black is $500 and cart replacement of the Maestro is $600. The Maestro is more costly. The Maestro has better specs than the 2M Black. Channel Separatio...
Clearaudio Classic Wood vs Grado Gold?
The Grado is more forgiving. It has a big midrange and a warmer sound. The Clearaudio will be more accurate, less forgiving and will not accentuate any frequency range. The Clearaudio has threaded holes so install is easier. You may need to worry a...
Riggle VTAF question
It seems odd that after adding the Riggle adjuster your arm is too high except for thick records. Could you do this:- Get a lead from an automatic pencil and lay it down on top of the headshell in line with the 3 large holes (assuming you have a R...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
So Bobgates, how is the Ortofon 2M Bronze working out? I don't know if I'm that crazy about the Shibata stylus in the Black and if I get a 2M it might just be the Bronze. How have you found it?
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
Good idea... From what I understand, drag/friction of the stylus in an actual groove is about 1.4 times higher than that produced by a blank record. Using the blank record as a "jumping point", once the stylus stops moving he could increase anti-s...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
>>Huh??? Skating force caused by drag?<<Skating is not the result of centripetal force in a tonearm. It is not the headshell that is spinning around, it is the record. And if it were centripetal force at work, the cart would be heading...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
Skating force is caused by the drag of the stylus in the groove during heavily modulated passages. If you are setting it by watching it on a blank disc, you are not setting anything. But at least you are having fun!
lps sound bad
Exactly. I wish only 30 percent of my cds sounded bad.
