Soundlab speakers with sub woofers?
Understanding your speakers will help when you try to tune subwoofers, whatever the brand, to aid the bass. The Soundlabs, as well as any other stat or dipole that runs down into the bass, will exhibit reinforcement at some frequencies (constructiv...
Electrostatic Speakers
Learsfool, most guys who have not heard great horns, but love stats, will think you are crazy. They just have not heard the right horns. I agree totally. A great horn can do the electrostatic softness, subtelty, transparency, but can also do the s...
Has Anyone Found Shunyata Cables Sounding Thin?
The talk about cables being tone controls, series or not, begs the question, why do cables have to be tone controls? If a cable has a tone, then it is adding distortion to the signal. A perfect cable would have no tone. Why not try to move toward ...
Pass Labs Vfet amps
They are very expensive in the quantity high end mfgrs would use them, and there are not many around to experiment and build protos with. Most mfgrs are not that innovative and stick with pretty common devices and circuits, no matter what technoba...
No Wilson Audio, D'Agastino, Lamm, YG at Ny show?
OP: "Anyone else miss them this year??" Answer: "NO!"
VAC amps and Focal Grand Utopias at $195k a pair
The OP is either someone connected with the room or hears with his eyes, hearing what he expected to hear instead of reality. That room was as bad or worse as most of the above posters portray. No bass, no dynamics, no coherence, a very poor sound...
No Wilson Audio, D'Agastino, Lamm, YG at Ny show?
They were not there but I can't say I missed any of them at all.
Speaker cable manufacturers
Detailed and smooth are not mutually exclusive, the answer is called "low distortion", which gives more true detail but also less fatigue and greater smoothness....on "smooth" sound sources.
Sloped baffle
Hi Roy,Thanks for the discussion, but though the difference between the woof and mid remain constant, there is a difference, yes? And that means that the wave launch of a transient will not be the same for the 2 drivers, correct? The are not time ...
Sloped baffle
Roy, what about the 90 degree phase shift of a single pole crossover?
Sloped baffle
Why does so much discussion center around how "perfect" 6db per octave is? There is 90 phase shift at the crossover point and we can add on electrical and mechanical impedance changes in the drivers across their frequency range. So can't we fully ...
Teton monitors from Wavetouch Audio - A Must Hear
Full of crap for sure, I would not believe anyone on these speakers until I heard them for myself. The way that guy shamelessly promotes himself, without any real substance to what he says, is pathetic.
Tonearm Options for Basis 2800
I visited that room. It was really the dealer's room, not the equipment makers. He has carried AQ cables for decades. The manufacturers likely contributed a share of room costs. And I'm sure they all played nice and respected the dealer's long ter...
New VPI 3D Arm
Don_c55 and Judyazblues, congratulations for seeing through the hype over nothing and recognizing reality. Don, your thread on 9-19 sums it up.
Not impressed
Bo is as full of, or more full of, the hot air and fiction as most of the manufacturers and reviewers who are unwittingly sabotaging the industry.High end has become home to plenty of weirdos and fakers for sure, all looking for your $$$$.
