Cary 306 SACD Professional
I have the new Pro 306 burning in. It is awesome. Bass, dynamics and ambience all improved over the 306-SACD. It is superbly musical too. It will need a good 300-400 hours to break in. Have not had a chance to compare it to other players, only hav...
Aesthetix IO Sig tube rolling/initial impressions
First and foremost I recommend replacing the EL-34 in the power supply with a KT-66, new or NOS. The bass and dynamics will really improve. For V1 and V2 it's really hard to beat a NOS Telefunken or RCA black plate. Mix and match for best results.
Ayre C 5xe Universal vs. Cary 306 SACD
No heat problems here, standard Billy Bags rack - adequate ventilation.Keep in mind that any semiconductor, even commercial grade is rated to at least 70 deg C, most are rated to 85 deg C. That's 185 deg F, which would be pretty darn hot. The unit...
Question for Cary 306SACD owners
If you have HDCD encoded discs be sure to set the A on 44.1 so that the HDCD decoder is engaged. The display will show "HDCD" for those discs.Other than that, I leave it set at 192KHz.
Anyone heard the new Cary CAD-500MB monos ?
Here's what I posted on AA about these amps:In addition to the Cary SLP-05 preamp, I have also had the opportunity to audition two of Cary’s recent solid state amplifier products – the A-306 and the CAD 500-MB’s.Again, to save my lazy fingers, her...

I have found that Telefunken ECC83 (12AX7) in the V1 and V2 position significantly reduces noise level and provides incredible transparency.Another ideal choice would be RCA black plate 12AX7/7025. A matched quad selected for low noise would suit ...
Cary CAD MB500's - anyone heard them
Here's what I posted last month in this forum on the Cary 500-MB:02-14-06: OldvinylHere's an excerpt I wrote on Audio Asylum on the 500-MB:As with other Cary gear, these amps took well over 100 hours play time to come in to their own. And come in ...
$2k for new Cartridge Benz LP or......
The problem I had was that the Music Metre Silver phono cable had a loosely wrapped shield. Music Metre preferred unshielded for their silver cables, but with my set up and all the power supplies it was picking up too much hum.The Harmonic Technol...
$2k for new Cartridge Benz LP or......
I started years ago with a Benz MC-Gold, and have worked through the Glider, H2O, Ruby 2 and now the LP for the past 3 years. My system has the exact same phono stage ( Io Signature with volume controls and 2 power supplies ). My table (Avid) has ...
Any experience with Cary CAD 500
Here's an excerpt I wrote on Audio Asylum on the 500-MB:As with other Cary gear, these amps took well over 100 hours play time to come in to their own. And come in to their own they did. From the Cary write up – “1 x 500 watts per channel @ 8 ohms...

Good point Jafox. I don't wait an hour though. Also remember to first disconnect the AC power cable before disconnecting the power supply umbilical. One other thought about the hum. My SME arm had a DIN-RCA Music Metre silver interconnect that was ...

For my house wiring, the 20 A circuit is dedicated (only the audio outlets, 4 WattGate). They are "star" wired. Yes, the AC+, AC- and ground all run directly back to the circuit breaker panel. The house is grounded with 2 ten foot copper rods and ...

Do you have the Io plugged in to the same outlet as the EP 15A? If you use separate outlets, do you know if they are on the same circuit (breaker)? This may be hard to determine in an apartment building. Also, the ground may be flakey. You can alw...

I use a PS Audio Ultimate Outlet (20A) which is simply a 1:1 isolation transformer. There is no restriction of dynamics. It cleaned up some grunge coming in on my AC power lines. Also, I use PS Audio power cords, they really helped lower the noise ...
