Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
Steve,It’s ALL ABOUT JITTER, periodI was under the impression that jitter was handled by “modern” DACs or by using an external master clock.  Having said that, I have zero experience with external clocks.I have a Mytek Liberty DAC.  It’s specs hav...
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
Steve,The OP appears to be relatively new to this "hobby," at least from a music streaming perspective if nothing else. He, like most people I believe, probably wants to get it as close to "right" the first time; sit back and enjoy the music; and...

@OP.  Try to find a local dealer and audition the ZENmini in your system if possible.
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
@kumankahn.  But, honestly, I just want to listen to music that sounds great and is easily located and selected. Looks like you have to main goals for your music: (1) sounds great  and (2) is easily located and selected.(1)  Seems like a hardwar...

Also get a dac that has a network interface so you can keep the server in a different room I think that depends on your overall system setup.I once used a Synology DS216+ NAS as my media server.  It was kept in my home office and could make mec...
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
@rbstehno  I go directly to my dac using Ethernet so no need for the inferior usb connection. Why do feel a USB connection is inferior to Ethernet?  I've used both in my setup and I get the best SQ with USB.
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
@ curiousjim  I ripped my CDs to FLAC.  There are those who believe WAV provides better SQ.  I haven't tried WAV and I'm quite happy with FLAC.  WAV takes up more disk space, if that's a concern.  I don't think you'll have a SQ problem with eithe...
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS?
To make this work, you'll need a hardware device to hold your music files; some type of software to "serve" or stream your music files; endpoints to receive the streamed music; music control software running on a hardware device to play music; and...
Most Recent ROON Upgrade Quite Nice
I recently moved from Logitech Media Server (LMS) to Roon 1.5, and now to Roon 1.6.  I really like the Roon interface and functionality, and its SQ over LMS. I haven't noticed any SQ difference between 1.5 and 1.6.   I've been using Roon for...
So many new TT's at lower price, still better off buying used?
Technics makes a very good turntable.  I purchased an SL-1600MK2 in 1985 that's still going strong and an SL-1200G that I purchased this year.  The 1200G is IMHO an excellent table.  The 1200GR is almost as good.If you can find a good working 1600...
What area or country do you live in ?
Fort Washington, MD in the Washington DC suburbs.
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Absolutely nothing.  I've ripped all of my CDs to an Innous Zenith MKII and haven't looked back.  Having said that, I was listening to Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" today.  Great album on CD, awesome album on vinyl.
Best Tonearm Lifter?
Anyone using a tru-lift with a Technics SL-1200G?
Any experience with Tannoy loudspeakers?
I have Tannoy 8 dcTi from their Definition line.  The Tannoy's are positioned about 3' from the back wall and 3' from each side wall. My room size is 12' wide, 13' long, with 9' ceilings. I use a NAD M12 pre/dac and NAD M22 v2 power amp.  I lis...
Whats your take on a NAD 3020, I truly believe it defined stereo and still does!
I used a NAD 7140 and DCM Time Windows 3’s for a long time.  Now I push the Time Windows with a McIntosh C31V and MC2600 :-).  A bit of overkill but they still sound great.
