60 Hz noise shielding suggestions?
That Denon was made in 1991, don't get to crazy. I'm really wondering if something else is wrong.. 30 years old. The electrolytics in that unit have to be going south..Again GOOD shielded RCAs or XLRs are a must with most tape heads. I haven't use...
60 Hz noise shielding suggestions?
Everything is electrically isolated, and the hum is audible as soon as the tape heads are energized. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>...
Whether to do anything about the limitations of our ears
For me it is VERY simple. If I don't like what I'm hearing I change it. I don't care what it originally sounded like. I don't play music to please the person who produced the music, it's quite the opposite for me.If that means a smiley face or a f...
Can someone suggest a lush tube integrated under $3000 used
A lot of the Carys you can swap the valves. 6V6, 6L6, KT66, 77, 88, 90, EL34, 6550. Just re bias and away you go. EL34 isn't the best valve for bass, sure great for everything else, thought..Regards
MC 240 ReTube or Replace
They get dirty, they get loose. They are 55+ years old. I've fixed at least a dozen amps and preamp with cleaning pin pockets and tightening them..Sold for JUNK and fixed for pennies.. :-)Regards
Should I buy a VTL Siegfried mk1 basically new 700 hrs?
Same here I owned VTL for many years, Bea is a PITA BUT their service is fast. They will NOT give out any information other than "Send it in" for service.Call them with the model and see if they still support it. If not there is more than one that...
Top 3 songs to evaluate a system
I'd say any system that could make Yoko Ono sound OK, is one heck of a system. Anything she has EVER done as far as singing sounds BAD.As far as a business women, she ain't no dummy, but she was always hard to look at.. My mom would say "Back that...
Audiophile Reel to Reel Tape
clio09, I'm set up the same way. Direct head playback with a ZP3. The problem was always source, back 45 years ago when I started. It was BAD back then and it just sucks now. I'm on the path of doing my own recordings. I like classical about 2% of...

Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers?
Jason I remember they had really good mids they were an easy listen because the tweeters didn't boil my ears. The bass was deep but correct for the time (70s) and the music we were listening to. Surely rock & roll or Funk ALL LOUD. James Brown...
What do audiophiles do in their cars?
I like mine after 100 sf of deadening stickum', a million watts of little Class D amps, a 200 watt alternator, a cap pack, isolator, 1 10" sub and swap the stock speakers out for comp speakers. The wife just loves it, so do I.Factory head set with...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers?
Wow! Pope Mozart fan of the wideband.I like Ohm in other folks set up. I've never owned them. I heard them with an Infinity set up in the 70s. It was their tweeter that was used. Pretty impressive both times. The second time was about 8-9 years ag...
Subwoofers going into standby with low volume listening (New Integrated Amplifier).
You put a left and right signal into a left and right signal. Put the left into the left NOT the right too. You need to send the left and right signal to the plate, not a single wire and split it. The bass has a left, right (and center mix sometim...
Member Make Zero Sense
OK, can we cuss and swear? Tell dirty jokes, and post nasty picture of strange body shape speakers. Will there be speaker shaming? We don't have to be politically correct do we, we? Can I say we, we, or is it wee, wee? Just askin'. The same way th...
