Earplugs at concerts back in the day
I never did a BIG concert without them..Smaller venues, and a good sound man, I’d pull the plugs. Most folks know it, but opening your mouth and jaw position, really help with HIGHER SPL.. There is a point, it’s to loud. The plug go back in, I wal...
is the amp too powerful..and would it hurt or damage my speakers?
Yup that same 2-18 watt SET, built with keeping your speakers safe (in mind) can be the worst. When an owner  thinks "WHAT can that little sucker do?".. BUT not have some of those GREAT safeguards built in.  Answer: Burn everything up.. Overheatin...

Op it's not usually the amount of on hand power, it's the "quality" of power on hand...  If the amp is well behaved, and isn't driven to pass a bad signal, chances are your speakers, will never have a problem. Continual "clipping", fuse blowing, o...

Power tube operating temperature a good proxy for power output???
OP, I would wonder on that one, myself. I’ve used thermal guns, sense they became available to mechanics. Take your readings at several different spots. The top may get the hottest, but that’s not the actual plates, wires or glass. I suggest you p...

McIntosh MC2300 as a sub amp
I guess so.. What does a MC2300 weigh? Think of the old Grateful Dead.Stacks of those things.. Maybe MC2500 too. Lots of Mac, in any case. Poor stage crew. :-)Regards
Excellent Power Supply Solution
I'll check it out. It's for a cable router, from the cable company. All of them are noisy. They have to be on a different circuit. No noise problem NOW, but it took a GL device and a different circuit, to do it.. They use to pull more watts than a...
Do you, or did you, have Audiophile buddies that you shared music, gear, times with?
I have one left in Washington state. Been bud, for 47 years. I heard him playing a guitar on his porch. I was amazed.. I was a mechanic, he was a tree surgeon. Been best of friends every sense. Me moved to take care of his MIL.  Now to move back i...

Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
I got 5 minutes to do everything I can. This is how it’s gonna play out..The vinyl, 3 pictures, the dog, the bunny, the wife, and my hat, kinda in that order. Insurance will have to fix the rest...You can have every car on the planet. because I wa...
