Anyone Tried Unmatched Power Tubes? There are some amps that won't tolerate mismatched valves. Mac is one BUT in pairs as you said per rail helps. The ability to bias individual valves help.An issue for unbalanced valves top to bottom, IS.. One large dual or one small signal valve s...
MC275 pair vs single with sensitive speakers Just curious, you have 2 MC275s? Another thing.. In stereo.. The 275 sounds better, to me.. They pass muster in mono, BUT MUCH better in stereo.. 240s and 225s also... Stereo or dual amp... I like dual amp mode..Been a while. I have to look.. Som...
Whats this for? Yup Remote access, get it.. Yuk Yuk...Regards
Difference between amps I'm with cakyol on this one all the way.. I have an older Adcom 7500, it shares a common PS. It works well for what it was intended 20 years ago.. It still works quite well as far as sound and easy to maintain. AB unit doubles watts to 4 ohm. Work...
Newly patented, infinitely adjustable system tuning Hi Hi, Hi Hi.. Erik.. Just couldn’t help it.. LOL... I don’t blame you.. Patent Pending.. Too.. All for less than the cost of postage stamp..Sometimes enough is enough..Regards
Monos and mains,.. too close? The lower the better. Behind is better. That radiator.. Is that noisy with a wooden handle, tap? That could make some noise.. A heavy blanket just to test. Dampen the heck out of it.. see if it sounds better... EQ racks between speakers is the r...
Vintage Rek o Kut, GATES, GRAY,RUSSCO turntable rebuilds ?? I love um.. Just a ton of fun..To me a TRUE gem in the rough.. There are a couple dual motor drive units too, I gotta brush up a little too. I can't remember, Might be EMT or Fairchild.. Big 16-21" platters. Personally TOO big, for me.. I need t...
Vintage Rek o Kut, GATES, GRAY,RUSSCO turntable rebuilds ?? Look at my little page. There is a Russco in a heavy oak plinth. I usually keep 6-10 different units around. I like Sparta, and QRKs too. They are all close and many parts interchange. The Harris CB500 are great. My personal favorite all time, (mo...
Monos and mains,.. too close? You’re good, think plate amps?.. Speakers and computer gear.. The whole reason for shielded speakers.. Physical hard drives and magnets don’t play well together either..I have had to turn amps 90 degrees, then 180 a couple of times, to get things ...
McIntosh Autoformers and Speaker Impedance Dips (KEF Reference 3’s) Leave it on all night.. That will tell you a lot.. Just let it settle..Everything. Cables, connections.. let it percolate..:-)Regards
Living with unsolvable hum - Any audio detectives out there? OP before I read through this, did you pull the valves tighten the pin pockets and swap the rect valves? Did you pull the fuse and inspect the fuse pocket, clean it and replace the fuse. Did you replace the PC? Just asking?Regards
McIntosh Autoformers and Speaker Impedance Dips (KEF Reference 3’s) Is the unit broke in or brand new? They need 100 hours or so, if not the 8 ohm tap. I don’t know why but I have found a lot of speakers sound better on the 8 ohm tap. Less distortion and better bass control. First things first though.. leave it on...
Bigger drivers = bigger soundstage The size of the baffle in which the driver is mounted is a big part of this too. There have been plenty of A'gon threads arguing about wide baffles vs. narrow baffles. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced Inputs If your looking for confusion you came to the right place.. Get a hold of PASS and talk to them.. Call Nelson Pass get his number at First Watt and ask HIM.. It’s been a few years, he has always been available for his products in one form or anoth...
Impedance change!? + 1 gs5556 or lost a portion of the XO including a driver or a driver alone. Some amps go haywire and the DC goes HIGH. Adcoms were BAD for it.. behind leaky electrolytics on the signal boards. I’m actually looking at one. 565 MB Adcom. It would bl... |
