DIY balanced interconnects Thanks to Atmasphere and Tvad for the help. I also checked my manuals:The aleph ONO spec is listed at 150/150 ohms which Pass states is low enough to drive most any load. The cary 303/200 spec is not given in my manual probably beacause the user ca...
DIY balanced interconnects Ralph, thaks for the respone and you may have saved me some money. I was going to order the Vampire cable and XLRs from Michael Percy, but I can get no response from him by phone nor email. I can get the Mogami and Neutrik for much less money from...
DIY balanced interconnects Kijanki-Maybe when you retire you will become intersted in DIY again! I started audio building Dynakits and have now gone full circle.
XLR to RCA adaptors Be very careful as not everyone respects the norm of pin 2 as + and if they do not an adapter could cause damage by tying the ground to the wrong (hot) pin.I have been referred to DIYcables and they show how to make an interconnect rather than usi...
DIY balanced interconnects Thanks for the responses so far. Thanks to Danmyers for the post on construction (even tho I have no interest in Cardas). I note these instructions say to connect the shield to chassis ground on the source end only, as opposed to Kijanki who recom...
music room design questions dimensions/flooring A local HT design office suggested to add another plywood layer to the first layer over roofing felt and screwed into the first layer, but not the joists. I did this when building my home and am pleased with the result.
KLH Model 12 w/External contour control Yes,I had KLH 12 speakers (twice) in the early 70's and they were great speakers for their time. They were floor-standing speakers with a 12" woofer, a pair of cone midranges, and a dome tweeter. They had an external crossover which could be velcr...
Help I think my AC is polluted I seem to have a similar problem. Is there an easy way to measure DC offset on the AC line? I have access to a scope, but no skill in using one. Also I discovered when I added dimmers to the dining room light that the electrician had not run a grou...
different connectors for component output on Muse? I also have a MUSE 9 sig gen 3. The BNC connector is technically better as it is really 75 ohms. BNC to RCA cables exist, but it is not worth paying a lot of money to get them. You can find the BNC to RCA adapters at Radio Shack.
Alpha-core advise? I have no doubt that the Threshold amp can deliver 500W, but that does not mean the speakers are demading all of that to require more than the MI2 cables can deliver. I personally think your cables should be sufficient and you state that you like ...
How do I set anti skate on Nottingham Anna arm???? It sounds like you are trying to use a blank disc to set the anti-skate. I never was able to get that to work either as the weight to neutralize is MUCH too high (this method ignores the friction of the groove). The simplest way to start IMHO is t...
Speaker Wire for a non-anal listener I question if you are really "non-anal" or you wouldn't be bi-wiring. If you can do without bi-wire go for the Goertz speaker cable. The 13 ga basic Cu ribbon cable with rhodium connectors and Teflon insulation should be about $160. Be sure to get...
Unused balanced outputs Do not short your outputs! You would probably blow up your preamp. In addition I would be amazed if anyone can actually verify any benefit to short balanced inputs.
speaker stand height for "floor seating" usage..? You might want to try some of the Mapleshade stands or have somthing similar made. Go to their website and you will see what I mean.
Anyone Heard the McCormack UDP-1? Is no one bothered by the test results in Stereophile which show that the MCcormick is not capable of hi-rez decoding? I guess it would not be a problem on the many discs, both DVD-A and SACD which don't contain hi-rez info anyway! |
