Is upgrading worth it?
It's true, better, lower distortion systems expose the quality of the recording, good and bad. My solution for the bad? Listen at lower levels and use the tone controls, or play the bad recordings as background music.
Best Classical to "broaden" listening arena?
Start with the "classics" such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven. From there you can move on to Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov. These are the composers for cutting your teeth and the ones we all go back to for comfort. Then, when you are ready, treat y...
Which is more accurate: digital or vinyl?
16 bits specifies 65,536 levels, approximately 0.00146 decibel per level. I've read conflicting accounts. What's the smallest level change the human ear is capable of discerning?
Which is more accurate: digital or vinyl?
How does a finer definition of amplitude equate to resolution? Would smoother amplitude levels be audible?

64 bits? Bit depth describes the dynamic range, 16 bits=96 dB, 20 bits=120 dB, 24 bit=144 dB. The later could record a jet taking off and a pin drop without changing the gain. That's more than enough for the most dynamic music with headroom to spare.
will a low 60Hz harmonic hum wear out my speakers?
There's something Roc said that ought to be a clue, "the buzz is a lot louder if the amp is on with no interconnects hooked up." A ground loop should go away, not get worse when the amp isn't connected to the pre—no connection, no loop. And, a 60 ...

Stacking sub-woofers
Stacking subs will not produce interference patterns that effect dispersion—the wavelengths are too long. Stacking them won't help smooth out the room response. See Floyd Toole's book "Sound Reproduction: The acoustics and psychoacoustics of louds...
Ear Buds? Any good recommendations under $100?
I have a pair of Shure and the Sennheiser MM200 Bluetooth, both seal the ear canal to reduce ambient noise and improve bass response. Recommend either, but I use the BT mostly for the wireless convenience and phone function.
What is the best sounding QSC power amp
One of my systems uses pro amps. If you're in the NYC area and would like to listen, email me.
Who has a symmetrical music room
My current room is symmetrical, but a previous room was asymmetrical with knee-walls and dormers, and if not for the dormers, nearly square. All it needed was a .5 dB balance adjustment between the left & right channels.
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
Sold mine years ago. No regrets.
Is true-biamping now cheaper and easer?
You're on the right track. Get rid of the nasty passive x/o, but converting a passive speaker may be a bigger job than you think to do it correctly. Do your research, know what you're getting into, then dump the passive x/o and enjoy the results.
sibilence....any cures out there?
Treating the room will not fix the direct sound. The issue is an elevated mid treble, not an "ultra detailed" tweeter. (Does the Viper use ribbons?) Only real solution is to flatten out the treble with equalization. You'll need a calibrated SPL me...
active speakers, Paradise? Trouble in paradise?
Active x/o actually solves loads of problems. What's the logic (or benefit) of taking the amplified signal and dumping it into yet another circuit? Passive is for the plug-n-play crowd.
