Need help selecting a streamer for a beginner.
OP, you are making a good choice with the Node. Like your turntable and CD player, it is simple to use, unlike the vast tech setup options that come with streaming from a laptop. Find a way to hardline the Node to your modem. Then get a MHDT Orchi...
New Bluesound Node – First Impressions
+1 on all the Node2i > MHDT Orchid posts. Then have Grannyring modify your Orchid - huge improvement - Then add an adapter with a NOS 7308 tube. Wow, rivals my analog rig. Not quite on par, but SO good and SO convenient.
So done with audiophile fuses
Another observation on the unwrapped SR fuse. From the image, it looks as if they applied a graphene paste to the fuse before they wrapped it in their foil backed SR sticker. Perhaps these two additions to the stock fuse is part of their proprie...

That looks like one from Guangdong Sinobile Energy Technology Co.,Ltd
Millercarbon's Mega Moab Mod Meander
Chuck, glad to know your hard work is paying off. Enjoy it!
GR Research Power Cables
Wondering if those Ebay cables are really OCC and not OFC? Wig, impossible to know for sure. But I will let the sound decide.
GR Research Power Cables
oldhvymec, I just ordered one of those ebay power cables to compare it to the GR Research cable. So far the GR is wonderfully detailed with a wide and deep soundstage. Really enjoying the sound it lets through.
Sutherland PhD phono stage help
markd51, That is a good idea. I did see some images of the upgrade PhD internal board, the one that uses AC power. On that board, the resistor values for all the gain and load options are listed right on the board. I will save that image for futur...
GR Research Power Cables
Hey Oldhvymec, not sure what OTC is. Like OFC?
GR Research Power Cables
I just received a GR Research power cable today. Very nice construction, definitely Furutech connectors. Have not done any critical listening or A/B comparisons, but it does sound very nice so far.
streaming devices, which would you buy?
I third the Node 2i into the MHDT Orchid DAC. My Orchid was modified/upgraded by Grannyring and I use a tube adapter with a nice 7308 D-getter tube, glorious analog sound. If you add a hardline from your router, use a good quality PC to the node, ...
Sutherland PhD phono stage help
Thanks boothroyd.I sent an email to Sutherland support and Ron Sutherland himself responded with my answer. He said to use a 100 - 200 Ohm resistor. Nice to see a guy stand behind his product.
AVA Van Alstine SET 400 amplifier -- burn in?
I would give it at least 30 hours of play time before critical evaluation of any new amp. I do not own the AVA Set 400, but a good friend does and he felt it opened up more after a while.
Moving audio gear in sub zero temperatures
Frank Van Alstine from Minnesota used to joke, "If you order from us in January you get FREE cryo-treating of your gear during transport." The electronics and LP's should be fine. Aside from mitch2's caution on the temps and the plasma.
MHDT Orchid TUBE ROLLING
Another bump to the thread. I have been auditioning some 7308 / E188CC tubes with the Garage1217 adapter. Thanks to Brent Jesse I have been experiencing an expanded soundstage, richer sound with less grain. My previous tubes are the WE 396a and my...
