Speaker cone fading
Is the edge foam, or butyl rubber? If foam, they'll probably need new surrounds eventually, so just wait. If butyl, try wiping the surrounds with a cotton pad onto which you've sprayed (just lightly!) a little "spray silicone lubricant" (Auto Zone...
High Definition CD or HDCD - What is it exactly?
Well thank God for Tobias (especially), Ghost, and Tbg -- y'all saved me from a lot of typing ;--) So I'll just add a couple of things:First, I highly recommend Keith Johnson's newly ressurected Reference Recordings site: www.referencerecordings.c...

This is the USA distributor for Transfiguration:http://www.profundo.us/If they're too expensive, I'd have van den Hul (USA - no postage) do it. For, I think it's only a couple hundred bucks, you get a vdH stylus and they'll give it a thorough tune...
phono stage break in?
Just FYI: The PAD CD is $150 list but only $99 at Music Direct. It is burned in real time, not stamped. It is a full 72 min of computer generated sequences (not exactly "tracks") which "target" different types of electronic "parts" in the system (...

phono stage break in?
Noams, to be perfectly frank, I'm not sure I agree with any of this, as I already said:"Personally I think using the sweep tracks on a record like the Cardas regularly keeps everything (including the cartridge!) in shape."HOWEVER, one does need to...
Is power cord upgrade now still necessary?
Zdeng, you can see the emm Optimism at:http://www.auralsymphonics.com/optimism%20emm.htmlI don't know what the "stock" emm ST cables look like. I know that before the emm Optimism, people who owned emm preferred coax to the stock emm ST, but now p...
Is power cord upgrade now still necessary?
Zdeng -- using coax digital (metal) cable between your tranport and DAC would (at most) tie the two units' grounds together (and possibly not even that, depending how Theta designed the circuitry.)So if you don't have hum problems, I wouldn't worr...
