12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Eldartford, if what you're saying were true, the cutter would disturb the vinyl (and VERY ACCURATELY too -- carbon-copy accurately) on both sides of the groove it's cutting. But that would only produce a post-echo (in the previous groove), because...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Eldartford -- not to belabor the point, but can you explain just how the cutting head can cut the primary groove AFTER cutting a "ghost groove" (pre-echo) 1.8 seconds beforehand. Pretty fancy physics ;--)Or if you can, please direct me to any tech...
Got M&K MX-150 THX for Maggies... feelings? Rodman99999, I did it that way too (for 14 years, not 26 years) until I realized it was the wrong approach ;--) I sure was happy to eliminate those external filters, delay compensators, etc., from the chain. If your (very well designed, I assume) p...
RE: set up tips for Cello Reference mc cartridge Well, the MCR looks to have the same low output as the Cello, so if the MCR works OK w/ the DMC 10 . . . . . . . . As for the cantilever-less Cello cartridge, the only cartridges in the world I know of that didn't/doesn't have a cantilever are som...
Anyone know of a reasonable Tonearm Cable?? Well, you certainly don't want junk either -- too nice a setup as it is for that! OK, so give us a clue: where does the stratosphere begin for you?
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Shad, it's easier (maybe only even possible) to do these manipulations/corrections in the digital domain -- but then there you are...............in the digital domain!!Which is why, once CD's were available of course, I could never understand the ...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Eldartford, I'll say it again: Even if the vinyl did expand/contract/deform slightly in manufacture, it could NOT transfer with ANY degree of accuracy (much less an EXACT copy of) the modulations from one groove to an adjoining groove. Think about...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Shadorne, just because well over half your CD's are AAD and don't exhibit print through doesn't put print through on "thin ice" at all!First of all, if there was any print through between bands on the master tape, that's easily eliminated when tra...
Got M&K MX-150 THX for Maggies... feelings? Bob, I made it very clear that my remarks applied to panel speakers, which do not have increasing SPL in the bass and (for this reason) do not exhibit bass distortion since you can't have distortion where you have no response. The bass response in ...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? I think all "pre-echo" is just due to analog mastertape print-through. And as Eldartford points out would not happen in digital recording (either tape or hard drive.)I never EVER heard of one groove affecting an adjoining groove. Even if the vinyl...
Got M&K MX-150 THX for Maggies... feelings? Panel speakers tend not to go very low (ie most Maggies and almost all stats) and therefore they have a natural bass roll-off when run full range. In other words, no need to use any high-pass filters with them to "relieve" them of bass duties. So r...
RE: set up tips for Cello Reference mc cartridge Hello Daren. I got these specs. at www.cartridgedb.com They are not complete. They also have the 1992 Miyabi specs (which are more complete) and the Mark Levinson specs (which are not complete.)Type = Moving CoilOutput (1Khz 50 mm/sec) = .23mvFreq...
Magnepan-how much push/pull tube power needed Maggies don't come alive at low or "background" listening levels. So if your "2nd system" will mostly be running that way, forget Maggies, they'll sound thin no matter what amp(s) you use.And why would you bi-amp + sub a "2nd system"? Seems like o...
Best rack for non-suspension turntable? Tvad, that's a really good question! And the answer is a little complicated because every TT is different. So first I'll say what I did with my Goldmund Studietto. It comes with (would you believe) four different strength springs which are to be i...
Best rack for non-suspension turntable? A wall shelf is much better than any rack IMO. And frankly, I prefer unsuspended tables. Alternately, a firm shock isolater like Sorbothane is inexpensive and works just as well IMO as all the fancy air/oil cans that are appearing on megabuck TTs.. |
