fuses - the $39 ones or the 85 cent ones
.Here is my email exchange w/ Acme: Are your your silver/ceramic fuses 'typical' in their physical design: i.e. a fine wire passing through a ceramic tube? I ask because one of the 'devils' in filament fuses is vibration of the filament. Some desi...
Telefunken Labeled ECC801S Made by Valvo
The Valvo blue pinch-waist 6201's are terrific sounding tubes (and very expensive these days!) The TFK 801s is also considered a premium tube, but regardless if made by Valvo or TFK, it is a 12AT7, whereas a 6201 is a slightly different tube (has ...
fuses - the $39 ones or the 85 cent ones
Rogermod's ideas make thermodynamic sense, so I might try those.Dave, can I assume you had used Pro Gold on the 'regular' fuses too?
Aural Symphonics Cables
I only have the fiber optic data cable but it is light years beyond any other digital link I've tried. Tommy Dzurik is a very knowledgable guy and pretty much makes his stuff by hand one at a time. One reason you don't hear a lot about them or see...
Ideal room dimensions for great system sound?
The Golden Section is just one among many, mostly ancient, geometrical methods/systems for structuring pleasing VISUAL proportions in the physical world. Any association with room acoustics, sound, or vibrational progressions is pure rubbish, and ...
Mcintosh amp IV or V
Both versions put out an honest 90/180 stereo/mono watts. This due (primarily) to the new 490V power transformer. The V uses non-lead components and solder so it can be sold in the EU.The volume controls on the IV worked only with the SE inputs any...
Genelex Gold Lion KT-88 reissued tubes
For Pentas (and GL's too) I think Doug at http://www.dougstubes.com does a great job w/ matching and general QC. His prices are very reasonable (I remember thinking his shipping charges were sane as well :-) Unlike some tube sellers whom I won't m...
Just Purchased Infinity RS2B / RSIIb owned RS 2.5
I wish I'd never sold my 2B's!! You're right Speedy, I could never get those damn 4.5's to image!(and they had plenty of breathing room too!)
Just Purchased Infinity RS2B / RSIIb owned RS 2.5
Elizabeth, did you check out the URL's I provided? They show the internal and external x-over circuits including component values and the driver hookup diagrams. Should be a snap to build the equalizer box if one wanted to. However, using a good a...
Just Purchased Infinity RS2B / RSIIb owned RS 2.5
I had both an RS 4.5 and later on a 2b (which I bought from someone who worked at the factory) I can't recall if I had a bass equalizer box, but I was biamping anyway, so maybe I didn't need one ;-) Otherwise you may need it along with the jumper ...
Is two Subs better than One?
Lynhnn, just curious, but at what frequency to you cross over your subs to your main speakers?
HDCD playback
The problem with HDCD compatible CDP or DAC's is that the Pacific Microsonics approved chips suck sonically with two exceptions:1. Mark Levinson who because of the above-mentioned lousy performance, managed to get PM to allow/license them to desig...
cable directionality
I'm going to have to try all my single ended Purist IC's pointing toward their sources, and I'll let you know.I use XLR's for the DAC and the preamp/amp connections though, so that only leaves the outboard phono preamp and the old tube tuner that ...
cable directionality
Tvad with most shotgun IC's, the shield is connected at the arrowhead end, which is why if one connected all their source-to-preamp pairs with the arrow pointing to the preamp, all the shields would drain to the preamp's ground, which is what you ...
Is this tube sound????
I'll probably start something, but IMO, if you want to know what tubes sound like, you need a tube AMP! The preamp can be to taste. This because the sonic character of a system is determined first and foremost by the speakers (natch!) AND the amp....
