Head Cleaning Fluid
Grain alcohol (Everclear at the liquor store) is even better than isopropyl. And here's a tip for cleaning used in the old days by the pros: clean the head(s) WHILE you're demagging them! Just put the cotton swab between the tip of the demagnetize...
Which Mono-amplifier & preamp for ML Summits
Most well designed SS amps like Krell, Mark Lev, Rowland, Parasound, Bryston, etc. can handle the low impedance presented by electrostats, however, the combo of SS and stats can (depending on the amp selected) be a little bright, edgy, or harsh. I...
Tuners: late 80's Sony Es, Pioneer elite,etc....
Fore extensive comparisons, reviews, recommendations, etc. go to:www.fmtunerinfo.comIt's a very informative site..
Martin Logan Summit, better than Prodigy
Electrostaticman > It might have been a Krell, but I wouldn't swear to it. ML demo's their Statements with the big Krells and I remember thinking "Oh, of course." I can say it wasn't a toobie, which would have been nice.
HELP - Electrical / Wiring with new build of home
.....and one other thing that bears mentioning I think. Aluminum is not as good a conductor as copper, and presents a larger voltage drop per a given length than copper. If it's over 40 feet +/_ of wire run from your breaker panel to your system, ...
Which 'Shipping carrier provides the best overall
Let's break it down, because it really depends what it is you're shipping (and I don't use UPS....period!) Assume double-boxing in all cases with the exception of cables under 3m.1.) Big, or heavy stuff that's not particularly fragile (amp stands,...
Which cable to change first-intercon. or speaker?
Could you please say what you're using now, and what length(s)?
Stereo amplifier for a pair of passive subwoofers.
Especially if you're buying used, remember, Brystons come new with a 20 year TRANSFERRABLE warranty! A big plus for used buyers; and they are extremely acommodating about service/upgrades with no charge for under-warranty products.
Stereo amplifier for a pair of passive subwoofers.
Ditto the Bryston 3B
Rewiring of SME V tonearm?
My SME is 15 years old with copper same as yours. I sent it to England last summer for an internal wire upgrade and whatever other service it might need. The new SME V indeed has silver van den Hul wiring (instead of copper). However there is an ev...
Do I have Intermittent cartridge skipping?
You didn't say if you tried increasing VTF a little. And if that's not it, you might try cleaning the record with the appropriate solution (or maybe just that spot with a moistened Q-tip. Yes I know it's a new record, but perhaps for some weird re...
Which Mono block amps for ML Summit Speakers?
I just checked the ML Summit specs. The built-in woofer amp is 200W. Recommended external amp (for the panel only remember!) is 100-300W. None of the prior ML speakers had on-board amps, and thus would have employed a completely different electron...
Is there a length limit for Turntable cables?
Newbee, I believe it's capacitance that affects MM carts. And yes, a long cable run would definitely present a problem for a MM cart. Good IC's even long ones don't present a resistance issue. My 24 ft Maestro IC is only 0.6 Ohm.
Is there a length limit for Turntable cables?
There's a reason why most manufacturers design their phono cables right around 4 ft, or 1.2m. Any longer and you'll begin having emi/rfi problems (especially with low output mc cartridges.) I suggest you consider a Target or Billy Bags wall shelf ...
Which Mono block amps for ML Summit Speakers?
Well, I would definitely recommend tubes. Audio Research because of their output transformers which have taps down to 2 ohms; but there may be other makes of tube monoblocks which have that same capability. You'll have to check the ML website for ...
