what's causing a SME 3 to stick after a few spins?
Leisual, you're getting warm, but please try the string technique as it's the more sensitive then the "gently pushed" method ;--) I think changing the cart is a good idea just to eliminate that possibility (leave no turn un-stoned ;--) however I'm...
Cassette Deck??
What E. said, or even a Sony Walkman which are always available on the 'Bay. Sounds like this is a 'just for fun' project, so I wouldn't spend a lot of money.RE Naks: Tonykay is correct. Sometimes tapes recorded on a Nak can sound weird on other d...
what's causing a SME 3 to stick after a few spins?
> Does this occur with the AS turned all the way off?> When it 'skips', does it skip toward the center or outside edge of the record? Or rather, by 'skip', do you mean it won't track (keeps playing the same groove over and over again?)> W...

It sounds like the arm lift isn't retracting quite far enough.
Pro-ject Leather-It in the States
These people have anything you could possibly want (try a few different kinds ;--) http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/home.aspx You can order online, but I'll bet they have a store near you. And they might even have pre-cut round piece...
Using both the Balanced and Unblanced inputs
good call Al (an ounce of prevention . . . . . ;--)
Using both the Balanced and Unblanced inputs
Or if you can read schematics, it's very easy to see if they are "connected in some way" as E. puts it. In the older Gordon Gow Commemorative Edition (the first MC275 with BAL inputs) the inputs were connected. So are the BAL and UNBAL inputs of t...
Using both the Balanced and Unblanced inputs
It works that way on my Mk IV. But don't assume ;--) Try it, with both volumes turned down.
Exact power.....hookup question
Chessman, even though you didn't mention what kind of amp you have (and your system is not posted ;--( please try plugging your SP directly into the wall, and your amp into the EP. I bet it won't blow the fuse. Amps benefit GREATLY from being run ...
Exact power.....hookup question
Based on what I have read it is generally better to hook up the source components to the SP-15a and my tube monoblock amps to the EP-15a.Yes I would agree with that -- it's how I have my system configured. I have both units on the same dedicated c...
Exact Power....sp-15 or ultrapure?
If it's an SP, the first duplex AC outlet (next to the power cord) is a ground-fault interrupt (like the one in your bathroom, with a reset button?) This type outlet is only used on the SP, because in a "Balanced Power" device, there's no "real" g...
Exact power.....hookup question
ABSOLUTELY NOT!And that's unfortunate because it would be nice to enjoy the benefits Bill-k mentions. However, the EP-15A was built without adequate turn-on protection circuitry, and if you turn it on at the 'wrong' point in the 120VAC power cycle...
Long XLR's: PAD Venustas versus Mogami
Al, maybe I had it reversed?
Long XLR's: PAD Venustas versus Mogami
Al, my assumption (in the case of the AC's) is that the user keeps the two runs a reasonable (like 4" or more) distance apart.
Long XLR's: PAD Venustas versus Mogami
For those of you interested the speaker/floor interface, there are already many threads on the subject, this forum is about cables.Stringreen, your remarks (about your experiences with the Anti-Cables) is a perfect illustration of why I think it's...
