magnepan tympani IVa updates?
Cwl, you're right it's STEVE not Jim. I have heard rumors however that Steve has not been very involved lately. But someone there will help. They are indeed quite accomodating of Tympani owners.
Should I purchase an expensive phono preamp
If the tonearm cables are hardwired to your Rega, I'd just let it be for now. Whatever they are. the'll be good enough for what you're about to put together.Later on, you might decide to get an altogether new arm for your TT, new arm and TT, or ma...

You should contact Jim Winey at Magnapan.
Should I purchase an expensive phono preamp
The Origin Live tonarm cable is an (maybe THE? I don't know) upgrade for the cable that came with. See:http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtnrm&1145122254But maybe this isn't the time (for you economically) to start upgrading those item...

Ejcpa, what cable are you (will you be) using from your tonearm to your phono preamp?

Amp recommendation for Maggies 1.6Q
Georgioh, in the "golden age" Levinson (Madrigal) period, there were the 20 (amp) 23 (amp) 25 (phono pre) 26 (preamp) and 27 (amp).Improvements were made to all of them kicking them into major new orbits, sonically. New type circuit board material...
Amp recommendation for Maggies 1.6Q
Dave, I'm sure the Apogees are more refined than the Maggies and you're right, they sound good at low levels too. As I recall, many people biamped them, using tubes for the ribbon -- or is my memory failing?
Amp recommendation for Maggies 1.6Q
Giorgioh, the only way I think you can have both the power you need (SS) and warmth you want (tubes) with Maggies is to get a great SS amp like a Mark Levinson 23.5 -- almost tube-like and a great buy used (avoid the 23) and them get a really grea...
Amp recommendation for Maggies 1.6Q
In addition to Maggies needing lots of good SS power, it should also be noted that they (usually, I don't know about the 1.6Q) need to be cranked up before they come alive (achieve flat freq. response and full dynamics)I suggest that anyone hoping...
HDCD 'best one box player' recommendations?
Tbg, could you explain this a little more?"It is too bad that MicroSoft bought this technology and has decided to abandon it in their quest to keep up with Apple." Did MS buy it just to kill it? (I thought they were going to incorporate it into Me...
How much "bend" are in these inteconnects?
Paul, The right angle connectors are gold plated and shouldn't really degrade the sound witn the ICs you are using. I used them with Magnans and couldn't tell any difference with or without. Yes, you are adding another interface, but if they are c...
HDCD 'best one box player' recommendations?
The only CDP and DACs I know of that don't just use the "standard" HDCD decoding chip are the the Levinsons, which use a proprietary chip made just for them. The 390S is I believe their latest stand alone player. Otherwise, the proprietary softwar...
Audio Experience 100w monoblocks anyone?
I'm coming very close to ordering a pair. They take couple weeks to make. Here's the email I just got:The output transformer can work for 4 ohm, but I need to set it in the inside of amp. Standard it is set 8 ohm. Many people are buying this power ...
Special female RCA jacks
Ketchup, I was using Magnan ICs w/ my Bryston, and their barrels were just toooo big. I solved the problem with Monster right angle adaptors, but it was a less than desireable situation. If Albert suggests Cardas, I'd definitely check it out. They...
