End of Hi-fi?
They blame audiophiles for that, but they do not blame the environmentalists for the deaths of the space shuttle crew! If they had not compromised the quality of the gaskets on the shuttle by making them more environmentally friendly, it would not...
Where to put damping sheets?
The ulitmate result of dampening (to extremes) is that the music comes off as lifeless. I refer generally to overdampening the room. There are reflections in the recording that relate room ambiance where the recording was made. This isn't exactly ...
For Lugnut & Barb (Patrick & Barbara Malone)
PatYou're still in our prayers, the privelege is to those who have gotten to know you to one degree or another. There is no greater friend than a friend in need. I am thankful to all who have given of themselves for the sake of Pat and Barb.nate
Where to put damping sheets?
Mburnstein that's a dumb answer. You don't want damp sheet on the mattress, they need to go in the dryer! What results did you experience with the places you applied the sheets, and how did the placement relate to the power supplies?
What is PRaT

Upsampling..........
Josh, you should have posted your findings. There is still a lot of discussion about the subject. We have been talking about this a bit on the http://www.newaudiosociety.com site for a while. Let us know what truth you arrived at.
CES 2005: Who had the best bang for the buck room?
You are right. I guess $20,000 worth of digital could hardly be considered budget. They still had better sound than a lot of higher priced gear. Still a good bang for the buck. I wonder what the total cost of the system was that they were playing?...
CES 2005: Who had the best bang for the buck room?
Star Sound Technology. They used a lot of their accessories, along with their own amp and new speakers. In my opinion they were in the top four for sound at CES and that at a fraction of the Wavac, VTL, and Dali rooms. Amazing, even at the price.
aestetix rhea - the groove - sutherland fono stage
The issue with the sutherland is that batteries typically don't have the reserve or headroom for huge dynamic swings. I like the Klyne gear a lot, but my choice would be the Rhea FWIW.
Best find at C.E.S.
I have been very surprised by the Stereophile Cantus CDs. I bought two of them at CES, and to be honest this is not my normal choice for listening. You know, raised on rock and roll, and all that crap, but I love their version of Danny Boy, and Sh...
When is it time to up grade?
One thing I would look for is a used Aesthetix Rhea phono stage. This is a very good phono. If you prefer to look for SS in that range, check out the Pass Labs Xono. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with either. Don't do anything foolish like...
Which speaker should I buy? Please help.
The reason I asked about room size is because it can be a determining factor in what to buy. You really don't have any reason to buy something small regardless of the price. Your room is capable of employing all but the biggest speaker systems.Com...
New Beryllium drivers by Usher at CES2005
As long as they make their stuff in China it will continue to be cheap, and put better companies out of business. I was given one of their CDs at CES it was by far the worst mixed CD I have ever heard, but maybe it was made to make their speakers ...
When is it time to up grade?
What time is it?
Which speaker should I buy? Please help.
What size room will you be putting the speakers in, what do you like to listen to, there are more questions than answers now?
