what is the weakest link in my audio chain
You said that the problem with trying other components was that the rest of the dealer's system wouldn't necessarily match yours. If you deal with a decent A/V retailer (not BB and CC) most will allow you to take any specific component home to try...
Blu-ray format... Do you like it compared to DVD?
Those complaining about the cost of BD disks and players obviously haven't looked at them in a while. Blu-Ray players are currently available for $299. and under and will routinely be available after Thanksgiving for less than $200. I haven't paid...
Denon or Pioneer for HT
November issue of Home Theater magazine has a full review of the Pioneer SC-09 and recommends it highly. If my budget could stand it, that's the one I'd choose but have ordered the less expensive Pioneer SC-07 instead.
Pioneer Blu Ray Player BDP 05 FD
Latest models are 51 FD $599.list. I just purchased from Amazon for $499. w/free shipping. Just arrived today. The other is 05FD at $799. list. Minus the "Elite" badging on the 05FD, the units are 99% the same. The new 09FD will be their "referenc...
Seeking Stereo/Home Theatre System Advice
I'll only address the one component that I researched and auditioned, and then bought slightly used for $1,800. - the Ayre CX-7E. It is so good that I can't imagine ever upgrading to something else. It was like I had given upgrades to my amp/pream...
HT Receiver recommendation
I agree with "Reubent", unless the $500. budget is absolute, I'd look for a new receiver with HDMI v.1.3, room calibration, ability to handle new audio codecs, etc. If not, you're starting off with one hand tied beyond your back as far as future u...
RE; my Pioneer Elite '95:
I think, based strictly on the number of potential people who have direct experience with the 95, that you should go to AVS BD forum area and post a new thread detailing your experience and ask for help. I like this site better from the standpoint...
Modern day female jazz recommendations
Shirley Horne - "Here's to Life", heavy rotation here
Audiogon "Recordings to Die for" a complete summary
I'd suggest Shirley Horn's "Here's to Life"
Best jazz or blues female vocalist ever
Shirley Horn and Etta James get a lot of play here.
Which new OPPO DVD player is the one to get?
Kal - know you probably can't say much prior to Stereophile hitting the news stands, but can you tell us if it'll be BluRay compliant or will decode Dolby True HD and DTS-HD and pass as bitstream?
Video Question: Plazma or LCD???
I second everything BLUUOFF said. Pioneer Kuro models are excellent TVs, they have no peers at this time. No mater what you get, budget a few extra $$$ for professional calibration - you'll find the picture vastly improved, especially when you use...
New Denon Blu-ray players
I've seen it advertised on line as being available so I thought perhaps someone in the business/press may have had a sample long enough to have done a casual if not full review. Yes, I was aware that it's just a transport, that's why it appealed t...
Kef 104.2 vs 107.2
Thanks for the suggestions but I specifically want/need in-ceiling surrounds. Any suggestions? Any current Kef in-ceilings that would be 'voiced' the same as 104s?
Thinking of upgrading A-V receiver
I feel that the Audysey auto calibration is a very worthwhile feature. It's the common man's answer to expensive room treatment and professional audio calibration. In order to take full advantage of the significant sonic advantages that come with ...
