Balanced vs standard power
Hi Jim,Currently the xfmr is configured for Balanced powered, -60V/+60V, to reduce unwanted noise by CMR (by 10-12 db?). If I were to, configured the primary for 240V and the secondary 120V out, as you suggested, would I not be using the DU-10 as ...
Balanced vs standard power
Hi Al,Thx for your thorough explanation. A 2 x 20 amp breaker tied together a single=phase 120v line is feeding the Primary windings of the xfmr. The Secondary side of xfmr is also connected in series. Thus, -60V/+60V.Would you care to take a gues...
Balanced vs standard power
Hi Jim,Are you saying that by adding 220uf to the circuit I have effectively lowered my 10kVA xfmr rating to 5kVA?Best regards,Norm
Balanced vs standard power
Thx Jea. You are correct. By adding capacitance to the secondary side this did raise the output voltage to approx. 1v. However, input voltage is still 2V higher than output voltage.Hi Al,Would you please elaborate how increasing the capacitance to...

DIY power cord / cords - really good
I made several DIY PCs similar to Bruce's approach, and packed with Brass powder Cu70Zn30 -300 mesh with very good results. “Dynamic Filtering” technique works well on speaker cables also.
Balanced vs standard power
I, also, recently joined the BP ranks. I’m using a Signal DU-10 transformer wired for balanced power with electronics that can potentially draw a max. of 3400kVA. My findings with BP are similar to that of Zmanastroomy & Charles1dad. By adding...
Recharging Nargra Pl-P
Jfrech is correct. Before doing anything check if the PL-P works with the AC to DC converter.I configured my Nagra VPS phono preamp to run on 2 x 12V car batteries (connected in parallel). If space and aesthetics are not an issue, SLA batteries ca...
Would you pay to listen?
YES! One condition. I get to assembly the system. I would be a repeat customer for $20.00.

Hi Sam,Going with 4 VK-120's may very well be ideal.I was hoping to aviod more tubes in my system (currently I'm running 46 tubes) and also reduce the number of chassis. BTW, you have an impressive set of arsenals. I bet it sounds wonderful.Regard...

Hi Stewie,Here is a site that can answer your questions much better than I can.http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htmRegards,Norm

Hi Stewie,Having a volume control on the amps would work for setting the correct loudness to the drivers. However, with an active XO, you minimize the IM distortion. IMO, that makes a prfound difference to the sound. Thanks.Regards,Norm

Hi Rrog,In my case, vertical bi-amping would mean two more monoblocs to achieve my goal. I may end up that way, but for now I like to stick with a stereo amp to lessen the number of chassis in the room. Thanks.Regards,Norm

Hi Ngjockey,In my set-up the stock Marchand attenuators allows "set and forget". Do have a preference as to class of power in amps, (i.e. Class A, AB, D, .....) when pairing up with tube amps? Regards,Norm

Hi Magfan,You raise a valid point. Perhaps, Marchand (the xo manufacturer) has some insight to this. I will post my findings once I have the answer. Thanks.Regards,Norm
