New Air Suspension Footers for VPI TNT
Got my suspension "upgrade" a month ago or so. Had to insert a stiff felt pad above the foam inserts as otherwise there was not enough clearance. This may be because my platter is the original TNT platter, which was heavier. Mike was good about se...
Best cable for Graham 2.2
I know I am entering this debate a bit late, but I now use Discovery Essential phono cable. This was significantly more neutral than the XLO 3.1 that preceeded it, and more musical (not as hyperdetailed) as a silver cable that I tried.
Sony SCD-1 Filters
Before getting my Levinson 360S, I would use filter 2 for modern jazz and filter 3 for some big band music. As the previous responders wrote, there is no such thing as "no filter" so there is no purist reason to pick any one filter over any other....
Help Graham 2.2 Arm lift
You need to use a hexkey to raise the columnar armlift.Get a bunch of small hexkeys to find one that fits.Good luck, Randy
Digital Lens/24MXL
Try it with and without the lens. I sold my lens after gettingan SCD-1 for use as a CD transport a couple of year ago.The SCD-1 was so good as a transport that the Digital lensdid nothing to improve the sound.Randy
Audio Research Ref 3 Opinions
Dear Bobaywalla, It mistifies me that you would blame the ARC Ref.1 for the poor sound of your friend's system. I have gotten excellent performance from my Ref.1 (admittedly with the Reference GNS mod and some vintage ECC88's). It has never sounde...
Best mono cartridge
Love my Helikon mono. I've been playing with my Benz Ruby 3alot lately to see if I can optimize it's playback to beon the same level. With a mono record, the Helikon is much more dynamic and authoritative. Generally, I woulddescribe the Benz as mo...
LP collection management...what do you guys do?
I started cataloging my records and CD's (about 6,000 now) but gave up (I got to about C I think) when I realized that my new purchases were outracing my cataloging efforts. Now I just keep my CD's in locked cabinets and hopefor the best.
audio research classic 120 question
I've had mine for over 10 years with nary a problem. A shunt resistor burned out when a tube went the first yearor two, but since then they have been extremely reliable. They are very musical amps, wired in triode, before ARCstarted wiring all thei...
Line Condition /Pwr Protection on Mono Block amps?
I use a pair of PS Audio Ultimate Outlets on my ARC Classic 120's. There is a noticeable improvement of clarity compared to the wall current.Randy
What wire config for tri-wired speakers?
I triwire Alon Circes with a single run of Discovery Essential to the bass, and a biwire run of Discovery Essential (internally biwired) to the treble and mids. This improves bass impact considerably over my previous single triwire run. Of course,...
Straightwire Serenade to Crescendo comparison
What? You mean that V.I. doesn't make a speaker cable? ;-)
Straightwire Serenade to Crescendo comparison
What gets really old is Zspradlin answering questions like ``which is better x or y?'' with the answer ``neither, Virtual Image!'' I must say that for someone with no vested interest in Virtual Image, Zspradlin sure does plug this product endlessl...
What's Your Favorite Rollins album?
Alright, Way out West and Saxophone Collosus are probablyhis best, but I love his guest spot on side two of Liveat Music Inn, Vol. 2 by the MJQ.Randy
Differences between TNT 5 and 6
I've been upgrading my TNT for years (SAMA, flywheel, bearing, air suspension, SDS) to the point when it isalmost at Mk. 5 status, but with the Mk. 1 platter (I hearthat this was considered a warmer and possibly superiorplatter to those that follow...
