The best State or region for Audiophile I have to agree. Not to mention, for 8 months a year the weather is conducive to staying indoors and listening to music.I lived in the Portland and Bellingham area for 30 years. There are, or there was 10+ years ago, some great retailers in Portla...
Who is using their DAC as a preamp? I've been using a Benchmark Dac 3 as a preamp for 9 months and I'm very satisfied. It's super transparent, has plenty of gain, and remote control. The only thing it seems to lack is coloration.
I'd like to upgrade my speaker wire Audioquest Type 4
How do reference speakers rank to today's standard I own a pair of Avanti Centuries and a pair of Vandersteen 3A Sigs that are nearly 20 years old. If I had to buy new speakers every 2.5 years I would be listening to Bose or robbing banks.
Differences in Audioquest Storm series (Thunder, Tornado, Hurricane) I run a Tornado from the wall to the Niagara 1000, a Tornado from that to a Pangea power block, Shunyata Zi-Tron cobra to amp, Pangea 9 mkii se to sub from the power block. Shunyata Black Mamba and Black Mamba HC to dac/pre/ and phono pre amp, Pan...
Non-Oversampling (NOS) vs, My only experience with upsampling DACs is a Benchmark DAC3 and a Chord MOJO.With both I prefer the upsampled sound from redbook sources. Maybe it's placebo but I hear more detail with upsampling through these DACs.
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ? I have an Aleph 3 in storage now. It is sweet and delicate sounding but when I moved to a larger room it didn't work and maxed out below listening levels. It also runs warm and lacks bass punch and dynamics. It is transparent but speaks softly. I'...

Amp comparison I can't say but I have the Ref 110 and it is significantly better than my old VT 200 at everything except maybe, bass slam.SE owners seem to love theirs and the hierarchy of ARC models in general offer improvements from old model to new, standard ...
Which Integrated with Power,Current, and Bass Pick up a used Krell KAV-300i. Awesome bass, rhythm, pacing. I wish I still had mine.
Someone help with these cables (3.5 Stereo L, S-Video R) and what the coloured wires are? The R and W cables on the 3.5 are for left and right pos. The greens are neg.The YGBR cables on the S-video are for the red, green, yellow, and blue video signals.
Pangea AC outlets I have a Pangea Premier outlet. It's well made but I think the Leviton 8300 hospital grade outlet I have grips better. The Pangea keeps the plug in the outlet but the Leviton fells like it has more resistance when plugging or unplugging.I've notic...
DSD vs PCM .. Truth or Myth I read this a few weeks ago. It seems like SACD was another format doomed by greed. They could have made it better with 128, 256, or even 512 but didn't. It's pretty clear they made digital output impossible due to copyright fears, limiting playba...
Dealer Behavior My first "high end" audio purchase was a Krell KAV 300i integrated amp purchased from Art of Audio in Portland Oregon back in the mid 90's. Before that I survived with Sony/Yamaha receiver-based systems connected to cheap speakers with lamp cords.... |
