Is the "standard" Linn Sondek LP-12 surpassed by newer turntable brands and designs?? I have an '88 vintage Linn w/ Cirkus, Lingo, Ekos and had it "Tuned" by Tom at Ovature Audio in Ann Arbor, MI. New Kleos cartridge. Sounds as "New "; Toe Tapping musical. My (3rd Lyra) and it sounds better than the Clavis and Hellicon before. Stil...
Kuzma tables/arms? I have interpreted "Organic" as Natural. Someone correct me if I am wrong about this! I bought a Kuzma Stabi S, Ref 12" w/VTA tower, platter upgrade, and outboard PS at Axpona in April. I love it! Had a Dynavector XX2 Mk II mounted. Just unravels ...
Kuzma Stabi S and 4point? overkill? In home auditions of TTs are impossible these days. Dealer demos = different TTs; also everything else is different, Only TT that has "Stood Out" was Tech Das III at Axpona. Yet again the whole system/room was different. My dealer, who I have work...
Kuzma Stabi S and 4point? overkill? I can affirm (Brian's - Essential Audio) opinion of the Stabi S and Stogi S 12 VTA. Even though I had a less than satisfactory meeting with him years ago; I bought a Stabi / Stogi 12 setup from him at This years Axpona. I am very happy with the ta...
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? I have paired my Manley Steelhead driving a pair of Pass 160.8s to my Avalons. After (1) week; my impressions are: Great pairing! Well balanced top to bottom, midrange to die for, superb imaging, DEAD QUIET!!!! Bass control is the best and feel n...
How far would you drive to audition a component? Just last week Reno HiFi shipped me a pair of Pass Lab 160.8s. (286lbs.) Tonight will be day (6) of audition. "Rocked Out" last night past my bedtime! So far; Don't think that I will be shipping them back.
How far would you drive to audition a component? Juneaa, Alaska to Seattle, Washington. Then ferry to Bainbridge Island and drive to Silvedale, WA. Bought pair of Thiel 3.5s. Air freighted them to Juneau

Your first component that was "special" zavato, The V15 TYIII was my first upgrade in '73. I'm sure a lot of us wish they would make them again!
If I'm looking for "Tube Sound", why would I put a Tube Pre in front of a SS amp? Using my Manley Steelhead to drive newly acquired pr. of Pass 160.8s to my Avalons. Out of the box; the 160.8s had the best control of the bass that I have heard with the Avalons. Day (3) soundstage is wide, deep, layered. Midrange is to die for, ...
Phono Pre with volume control? Concerning the Steelhead ; 9yrs old but spent 4yrs in its box while rehabbing new house. It is still DEAD QUITE!!!!! With Original Stock Tubes!!!!.
Phono Pre with volume control? If your willing to pay the price; a Manley Stealhead @ $8500.00 fits the bill. I have a Steelhead bought in '07. Just talked to the Manley folks this week; if you can find a used one ; remote volume control can be retrofitted . I am currently driv...
Must speakers have certain volume to sound convincing ? I agree with gdhal. The system needs to pressurize the room. For the mood, the song, day or night. Even low volumes interact with the ROOM. My small system needs a small room, Main system needs its own room. But my body wants a remote volume contr... |
