God, I hate to ask this…
Death is not decided by doctors but by God... I fully support that PS Georgian writer Ilia Chavchavadze used to say:   "Live each next day as if it were your last day (in this world)"
God, I hate to ask this…
Nobody knows how long s/he will live. Just try not to think too much about it. I asked my children to keep all my audio stuff when I will not be alive. Part of me is in this stuff and I would not like somebody (whom I don't know) to have it (ironi...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
All electronics don't care what kind of music you put through them, which is to say there is no way an amplifier can favor a certain genre of music.  The level of difficulty is thus the same for the amp regardless of the music.  @atmasphere , I...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
Yes- I mentioned some prior, such as understanding the harmonic spectrum created by the amp. IMO that is more important than the THD.  @atmasphere ,  it would be interesting to detail this point: which are these important parameters that more r...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
Actually I've said quite the opposite, although decades ago we could hear things we couldn't measure. Those days are gone as measurement technology has vastly improved. Apparently the education of what the measurements mean is still lacking.   ...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
@atmasphere (Ralph), My judgment comes not from a particular knowledge of electronics but from the practice, from my (humble) experience of using and auditioning audio equipment. Hence, it can be subjective. Since your judgment is clearly  based ...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
It surprises me that the THD is still a major parameter for measuring the sound quality. It is quite irrelevant to the quality of the sound as we perceive it. Even the formula by which it is calculated doesn't look relevant. I guess the engineers ...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
So if you listen mainly listen to (an amplified) rock or electronic music, push-pull would be fine. But if you want to fully enjoy an acoustic music, you will do that better with a set amplifier.
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
But, with proper speakers and a quality build, SET amps deliver a very "pure" sound that can be quite seductive.  While bass tends to be not as tight and punchy as that of a good pushpull amp, the bass has its own positive attributes--it has natu...
Incredible Audiophile Imaging -- at a Concert!
Open area of course helps a lot but normally amplification and speakers are not  in concerts cannot be compared with good home audio system. Your experience was more an exception than a rule.
Speakers "Too Big" for room
You will see and hear no advantage of  big speakers in a moderate sized office. Bookshelf speakers would sound and feel more elegant.
CD's or Vinyl?
@mylogic , Thanks indeed for the suggestions, I'll try to get deeper into it. My main concern with the Pioneer deck now is not the fails in ff and rev  (which one can still tolerate), the problem is in the playback, the sound is dull with a very n...
CD's or Vinyl?
PS I just auditioned two well-recorded cassettes on the (properly functioning) Nakamichi deck, Thelonious Monk XDR on Blue Note and I am still listening to Pat Metheny's Secret Story, comparing to the CD  version via streaming on Tidal. Streaming ...
CD's or Vinyl?
@mylogic, I agree that cassettes are good alternatives to LPs. The only problem I face now is the maintenance/repair of  type decks (also that of cassettes). The Pioneer CT-F1250 that I bought used is a completely wonderful deck, in both, the repr...
CD's or Vinyl?
@mylogic , I like your remark to "live with imperfections" (I am often envious of a stamp whom I see in the street). The less we depend on our environment, the better for us. Though, if the windscreen of your car has too much of dirt, you won't be...
