Can using a bad tube hurt an amplifier? Yes. My SET amp was damaged (the capacitor below the tube and then other things, it was not easy to repair it) when an El-34 tube was blown up. In fact, I was in front of the amp watching how the tube was blown up, I powered the amp down but the ...
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse? @westcoastaudiophile , in most of the sonic aspects including the power (per dolar of price - although it is well understandable that one cannot compare the real power per-watt, in general, of any SS amp with that of a tube one). The distortion...
Genesis Genesis without Gabriel is like the Modern Jazz Quartet without Milt Jackson.
Genesis Just note that Collins learned singing from Gabriel, it is quite clear Gabriel's influence on Collins formation. And I like more Genesis early albums with Peter Gabriel.
Mid level listening Both things combine perfectly well. A good sound quality rises the degree of the enjoyment.
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse? You can certainly have a class D amplifier which is better than many class A ones. Look at this as a gift of technology that gives you almost miracle results in terms of a cost, weight, size and energy consumption.
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes? I always touch the tubes using a soft clean tissue. Even while powering on and off the gear, if there is a clean tissue at hand I prefer to use it.
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby? Recently I also thought that it's almost time to somehow round down, don't think that much about upgrades and enjoy the music. Still, some new upgrade ideas may come later but not necessarily so. It is important for me to have a feeling of stabili...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype I found that synchronizing my clock with the DAC, transport, and DDC took my digital sound to a new level This can be interesting. Could you be more specific on which kind of improvements you noticed with either the clock synchronization or you...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype I've come to the conclusion whomever believes most things ASR says doesn't have a very resolving system. Midfi at best. It's not the dac chip mainly it's the overall implementation. I've owned several dacs over the years and you get what you pay ...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype @stuartk We all may perceive the sound differently. I just like tube sound and prefer my tube DAC over all other ones. I am just now comparing two class D amps. One has a notably less distortion than the other, while the second one has much wide...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype @stuartk , My point of view is that we all depend too much on the quality of recordings we are listening to. Even on a poorly recorded music, the amps and speakers make huge difference, whereas the differences between DACs are much less. I do not ...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype @stuartk We are talking about the importance of a DAC compared to the other components of a system, comparing the impact of a descent DAC on a system. An impact of an amplifier or a speaker on the SQ of the system is drastic . All modern dec...
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers? With my experience an expensive supposedly good power cord used for an amplifier gives you a little bit more power. I would not say that it really affects the sound quality, either in SS or tubes.
Help me build up a jazz album collection. Can you suggest a must have album? There are no must have albums you should listen different jazz musicians and get a feeling and your own taste of what you like in jazz. |
