Seeking ideas about how to improve my system
I think you could gain a lot by better speaker placement. A 20'x20' room is quite susceptible to standing waves.  The best speaker and listening position placement will avoid the positions where there are peaks and nulls of the standing waves. Thi...
Old work electrical boxes
Thanks to all who replied. I'm going to try the screw to the side of the stud approach. I think that will give the best stability.
Great films where music is a central theme.
Copying Beethoven - a little obscure, but if you like Ed Harris' work, I think you'll like it.

A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine
Howard, I'll offer another take on why some of the vintage gear is musically the equal of newer stuff - good engineering. Before the modern computer era it was more likely that talented engineers would end up working for an audio company than toda...

The "Master Handbook of Acoustics" by F Alton Everest has exactly the info you're looking for.
DVD picture too small using component cable
The old Sony players I've used can be set up to display a widescreen image. Check the DVD player setup menu and see if there is an item called screen setup. If there is, select TV type. Then select 16:9.
Jazz trombone anyone?
As a former trombone player I was always amazed by Bill Watrous back in the '70s. I think his best was Bill Watrous' Manhattan Wildlife Refuge. This was before he started playing mostly Musak-like stuff. I've been listening to my LP (bought new) a...
BEST LOW VOLUME FULL RANGE SPEAKERS?
I think you may have a problem with bass overload in a room of only 210 sq ft. with speakers that can go down to the 20Hz range. Also, they'll have to be pulled out from the walls a good bit to sound decent. In your case, I think monitors and a su...
Vibration control question....
Muskrat, using 160 lbs/cu ft for granite, your granite slab will weigh about 60lbs. Vibrapods are designed to support very specific weight ranges. If you intend to put them under the combined weight of the granite slab and the CD player you probab...
The Cable Company - Wow
First time borrow is 10%. Subsequent times are 5%. I like the prepaid return shipping. Just stick the label on the box and drop it off at the local UPS store.

Kimber Select 3033 versus 3035 and 3038
Rja, I've also gotten that response from the Cable Co. The question is what do they consider broken in? It seems the silver stuff continues to change over a very long period. In my system the 1130 moved the sound from Havarti to mozzarella - it's n...
Kimber Select 3033 versus 3035 and 3038
Mgx1138, it's possible the 3035s weren't completely broken-in. They were a Cable Co. rental. Also, this was in comparison to Bifocal XL, a copper cable. The Bifocal XL had a bigger soundstage in all directions and more neutral tonality. Maybe in m...
Kimber Select 3033 versus 3035 and 3038
Nickt, I tried 3035 and found it kind of forward and edgy. However, I really like the all-silver 1130 IC. Is the all-silver 3038 smoother than 3035, i.e. more like 1130?
