Are you using anti-skating or not
It depends on the table and arm (and cartridge, too, probably).I have a Well-Tempered table and arm with a Van den Hul Frog cartridge and don't use any anti-skating force.I've, also, had the table set-up by two different dealers who didn't use any...
10 Levels of Turntable Mastery
I like Atmasphere's 12/16 post's listing of TLMs 10, 9 and 8.IMHO, a TLM 7 would be someone who can set-up less difficult tables and who can hear when things are "right". Probably, can set azimuth and VTA by ear.I'm about a 7, I guess.Below that, ...

High end Audio for ladies? Check this out
From Stereolady's website: "I can tell you, even the most expensive systems probably cost less then the money most women throw at other stress relievers!"What are these other stress relievers? For all you lovely ladies reading this post:I used to t...
Is music quality moving away from the "audiophile"
Per Synthfreek, just to clarify, I was referring to data compression. Also, I'm in complete agreement with Bongofury. And, maybe, Metralla is right about CDs. I dunno. I've never expected much from them to begin with and have always listened mainly ...
Is music quality moving away from the "audiophile"
Yes. Sound engineers are quite adept at "gumming up" the sound with "compression and over-amplification and fake digital reverb and all the other favorite tricks".Still, while compression certainly does degrade the sonic quality of what is put dow...
Is music quality moving away from the "audiophile"
Compression is the future. It's potential, unlimited. This is unavoidable and, ultimately, not incompatible with musicality. Early CDs sucked. But, technology improves. . .It is no different with compression. Engineers look forwards, not backwards...
preamp output impedance - could it be too low ?
I would try to follow the "eight to one" rule and mate it with an amp with a VERY low input impedance. But, I don't know of any amps with a 4k to 5k input impedance.Nonetheless, a low input impedance will allow your preamp to be "a good performer ...
Weights on top of equipment to dampen vibration
Walker Audio Resonance Control Discs work well. Also, Marigo Audio Lab's Black 6mm VTS Tuning Dots--although they don't, actually, go on top of the component--are effective at dampening resonances. Small pieces of granite glued to wood (and not ne...
Gallo 3.1 owners
IMHO, no.
Quality Cheater plug??
You, probably, are getting a ground loop through the outlet. You might try plugging into an outlet on a different circuit, that could solve your problem.Or, conversely, you could unplug each thing in the house on that same circuit, one by one, and ...
How Many Turntables Have You Owned
Turntables, or women?
How Do You Organize Your Music?
Bibliomantically. Subsequent to listening, I toss each record like a yarrow stick and place it in whichever of my eight different piles it lands nearest. Naturally, each record is, itself, determined to be in one of eight different categories, acc...
turntable issue - faint hum on one channel
I would first try redressing the cables. My 'table will do the same exact thing, sometimes. Then, try running an additional ground wire from a non-moving metal part of the tonearm to your ground at the preamp. That's worked for me, before, too.I th...
