Calling all indie rockers...
By the way, anyone out there into that new Walkmen album? It's fairly tasty.
Calling all indie rockers...
Good to see my old thread alive and kicking (pardon the Simple Minds reference). Synthfreek: I just recently got into that Neutral Milk Hotel album. I must admit that it took me quite a few listens to "get it," but man oh man, that's some good stu...
Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
Yeah, I too was curious why Rain Dogs didn't get more of a mention. I'm no where near an authority, but isn't Rain Dogs usually considered his "best" record by "critics?" But what do these so called "critics" know anyway? How do you like my over u...
Anyone still do insightful or intelligent lyrics?
This is in a little different direction, but I think Isaak Brock of Modest Mouse writes some really great stuff about space, god, and cockroaches. Not as linear as most, but crazily genius.

Peter Gabriel....Bad sounding CD's......groan.....
Check out the Hi-Fi+ issue from a couple months ago where Peetah was on the cover. There was a lot of info in it comparing the recording quality of the various formats.
Looking for a guide to best classical recordings
Thank you all for the suggestions. I guess by "definitive recording" I mean a combination of performance and recording quality. Actually, I'm not really sure, I just know that there are some recordings and performances that are famous for good rea...
what integrated amp has midrange adjusting knob?
I know my old Marantz 2270 has a mid knob. It's only 70 watts, so that might not be enough for you, but I know marantz made more powerful models.
FM reception in Los Angeles
I don't personally listen to KUSC so much, but I worked at UCLA's radio station in college and our signal was unbelievably weak. I listen to KXLU a lot and I always notice that their signal is weaker and more static filled than the others, so I th...
Best band of the 80's
I can't believe nobody's mentioned Sonic Youth or R.E.M. or the Smiths! And let's not forget the Pixies. Surfer Rosa and Dolittle were two of the top ten albums of the decade.
5 most recognizable voices in American music?
Neil Young has an instantly recognizable voice. But then, he's a Canadian. So does he count?Billy Corgan's a good one though. Still, I was a huge pumpkins fan and even then his voice was a bit grating. You want grating? Isaak Brock of Modest Mouse....

REGA P2 /Planar 2 vs Music Hall MMF2.1?
Reference AV will sell you a MMF-5 for $399 new (but I think there's a delivery charge). Also they sell the 2.1 for less than $250. I'm in the same situation as you. I'd like to get a Rega P3 but I'll probably end up getting a MMF-5 because of the...
REGA P2 /Planar 2 vs Music Hall MMF2.1?
The P2 is considered a better table than the MMF-2.1. However, it's considerably more expensive as well. The P2 is roughly on line with the MMF-5. How can you spend? Keep in mind that the music hall TTs come with a cartridge but the Regas don't. A...
