Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
@dover  Some know it all would say that. I suppose you think it was smart.
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
@smatsui  Thank you. That’s an interesting post. I have heard a Bedrok in a couple of amazing sounding systems. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell if that was down to the plinth or the new Klimax Solo 500s.   It would be good to hear the Bedrok aga...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
@pindac Thank you. That’s good new for anyone looking to buy a Keel. Fortunately, I have been able to buy one used for equivalent of $1,400.
Dealer affiliations and attitudes, assumptions and lack of respectful engagement in audio.
What you are describing is not peculiar to audio. It could be sports, politics or whatever. Grumpy old men take up tribal/identity positions. It's increasingly difficult to explore ideas freely. There's a tendency to play the man rather the ball.
A principle guiding the wise audiophile life
@linndrum808  That’s the irony of hifi - it’s perfectly possible to thoroughly enjoy music on the cheapest of systems. Does that completely invalidate what audiophiles do? I guess we’re all going to take different views on that. There are no rig...
How Much to Spend on Turntable, Cart., Phono Pre
Interesting to see the break down of cost recommended by other posters in this thread. Out of curiosity, I looked at the same for my turntable set up at full retail. That is different to what I actually paid second hand due to wear on cartridge. ...

@tcutter Nice summary. I think you’ve pretty well nailed it in one elegant paragraph. Personally, the only thing I’d change would be to emphasise the importance of the source more. Although arguably you’ve got that covered by saying the sign...

@sns  I did try JPlay on an iPad with dBpoweramp Asset as an alternative to Roon. I thought it sounded slightly better. It's claimed to do so because there's less traffic on the network. It's cheaper, too. Unfortunately, I couldn't use it becaus...
New vs uses in your current setup
I guess if you’re the kind of audiophile who’s constantly changing combinations of gear in search of the perfect system, it’s going to be prohibitively expensive to repeatedly buy new. If like me, you’ve kept items for 25 years and in one case 40...
New vs uses in your current setup
Turntable, including arm, cartridge and phono stage bought second hand last year, but partially upgraded with new components. Pretty well everything else bought new, although up to 25 years old in case of power amps, cables and loudspeakers. So ...

@rbstehno  I don't know enough about Linux to use it with Roon. So I used ROCK on my NUC instead. I have an internal SSD for music storage. Been using it for a few years now without any problems.

@livinon2wheels  So it is with us. When she joins me in the evenings, the music goes off and we watch TV. It's often a struggle to find programmes or movies that we can both tolerate.

@livinon2wheels  That’s heartwarming to hear. You are a fortunate man. I can say much the same about my wife. Except that there’s no benefit in it for her. She has no interest in sitting down to listen to music. It’s one thing we can’t share. I ...

I have long come to the conclusion that audiophilia is a complex system of music, gear and listener in an environment. The result we get is a unique combination of innumerable factors coming together in an unpredictable way. If we upgrade a compo...
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
@gbmcleod  Much popular music on streaming services and CD, etc. is marred by the choices made during mastering. This does not necessarily apply so much to vinyl releases, which often sound better as a consequence. This is sometimes given as th...
