Atma-sphere S-30, any users out there?
Ahhh, the first watt. Doesn't Nelson Pass insist it is the first watt that matters most? That if the first watt isn't a good one then how can one expect the following watts to be any better? I like his philosophy. But I also like Atmasphere's phil...
Acapella Versus Avantgarde
Nice looking speakers on the Acapella site. I never heard of them. But they look awfully nice. Roughly how much do these cost (Violon for instance)?
Will the Big Ben improve the 24 MXL?
It improved a dcs Elgar/Purcell/P70 rig. The soundstage seemed to open up with better microdynamics and better image specificy. It had a widening effect on the soundstage. I liked it.
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4
Have any of you 2.4 owners listened to the current Merlin VSM speakers and, if so can you make a comment of two on the sound character difference? Not which is better mind you, because I am sure they are both excellent, but just the perspective or...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Oldpet, you might want to look into the Decware 685 player. It is $700 and includes a single ended triode tube stage driven directly from the dac chip output. No buffers, opamps, etc., to mess things up. How does it sound? Well, I will let you kno...
What amp/amps to drive magnepan 20.1's
I have driven my 3.6's with both the Wolcotts (pre-wideband transformer and, with the wide band transformer) as well as an Atmasphere MA-1 (and an MA-2). Had them both at the same time and switched back and forth for several months. The Wolcotts a...
Cd player for my NAD320bee
I own the 320bee and, have owned the Jolida JD-100. It is a very good player that matches well with the NAD. Very well mind you. I suspect the CD-25 would too (especially modified). I have also run a Trivista 21 dac driven from a old Pioneer DVD p...
Pass XA 160 review:life span is 6 years?
"Gregm" is correct - the bus caps will have a finite life period where leakage remains within their spec. All designers calculate the life expectancy of the caps since these are virtually always the limiting component in regards to life expectancy...
dcs Verona
I have listened to the dcs rig both with and without the Apogee Big Ben master clock, which serves the same purpose as the Verona. The difference is not subtle. The soundstage is slightly wider, more transparent and better organized. Instruments a...
My Journey to Digital Nirvana Part 1
Excellent review and comments "smilin". The digital realm has certainly rendered the life of us audiophiles difficult with all these choices and new iterations, etc that all to often can't quite get us back to the pinnacle of vinyl. Your comments ...
Benchmark DAC1 auditions out there? latest model
I have compared the dcs Elgar/Purcell, Jolida JD-100 and the Benchmark at the same time. The Benchmark is open, lively and dynamic. It is immediate sounding but, it can be a bit strident or bleached in some respects through the midrange and treble...
Von Schweikert VR4-Jr: Urgent Opinions Needed
Xenithon,Contact Shane at hometheaterdoc.com. He handles both speakers and is familiar with their sonic characteristics. Tell him Neal recommended that you contact him for advice. You won't have to worry about him being biased since he sells them....
Can OTL's drive ribbons well?
I have driven my Magnepan 3.6's (which have a vertical ribbon driver) from the Atmasphere MA-1's and the MA-2's, both with and without the auto-transformer. To make a long story short, the sound is spectacular with the auto-transformer. It is deta...
Musical Fidelity X150 or Naim NAIT 5i ?
I happen to like the NAD C320BEE. It has a surprisingly refined treble area as well as being musical. Good prat too. It's main shortcoming is power, which should not be a problem on your speakers. Also, the preamp section is not quite of the calib...

The Sony 9000es Modwright is your second front end? Sheesh! What is your source on your primary front end?I have heard good things about the Modwright 9000es.
