Is Mark Levinson amp no. 23 a classic like 23.5?
I've had the 23.5 and at the time IMHO, the Coda 11.5 bested it. And the Clayton S40 was noticeably better than both.

Biamping with 5 channel home theater amp
Splitting the signal might degrade somewhat but no operational/safety concerns exist doing that. As Eldarado said, 2 sets of outs on the pre IS better.

Need a new AV receiver
check out the Yamaha rxv-2700.If you are buying from a dealer, ask their service dept (NOT their sals dept) which brands they have the least trouble with, and the best response from the mfgr when they DO need service. Good Luck! 
Advice for music outdoors
I wouldn't even spend THAT much for your outdoor front-end. A receiver like a Yamaha ($200 at BestBuy-less if open box) will serve you nicely.Even lower cost, would be to just run longer 12ga. spkr wires from one of your other areas (home theatre?...

I 2nd Ben's Yamaha recommendation. Go for the 2700 model and you'll be pleased. Qualification: I have no business involvement, directly or indirectly with Yamaha in any way.Good Listening!

Yamaha has several models that do that. I know the 5990 will and there are several others too. 
Walls, ceilings, floors -- neighbors and sound
Headphones.....and if you have a lover over, have DUAL headphones.
