Good Sounding Inexpensive Phono Preamp?
I'm really really happy with my Channel Islands (CI Audio) VPP-1. Audiogon user "underwoodwally" sells them - call for pricing (unit is under $300). It was an enormous improvement over the Parasound P/PH100 I used to own.
Your favourite recordings that everyone else hates
I'm partial to "Who's a Funkadelic", which is verboten in many funk catalogs (the anti-George lineup). Also "Performance" and "Metromania" are 2 of my absolute favorite Eloy albums, though most found them to be a low point in Eloy's long career (F...
Classic rock album covers
I like Jon Anderson's (Yes singer) "Olias of Sunhillow". Classic! Nektar's "Recycled" is serious psychadelic eye-candy (and ear candy, too!) Hawkwind's Space Ritual is another all-time great cover. Cover art is a lost art yadayadayada. Totally tru...
Neither laid-back nor refined.
You won't want the Rega Planet then, it's famously laid back (though I love my Planet 2000 for just this reason). Music Hall CD25 would be a great fit, but like Kotta says, customer service is after the sale can also be important. Incidentally, th...
Wharfedale Emerald 93 Opinions
Scottht,Your opinions resonate with those of many (if not most), but I think you may be letting stigma get the better of your voice - have you actually owned or heard them? And if so, were you expecting much much more than what you paid for? The U...
Creek 5350/5350SE U-bar jumpers
Same reason why I sold my Music Hall CD25 after I had a close call with the remote - no replacement remotes readily in stock - and very much didn't sound like they'd even considered stocking them, either (to put that very lightly.) Gave me a bad f...
Sound Card with External DAC
You don't want to use the DAC on the sound card... whoooa, no! Junk. Get a soundcard with an external Coaxial (RCA) and/or TOSLINK digital output. These skip the cheapo onboard DAC (only meant to blip and tweep) on the soundcard and will send as g...
Why do people selling on E Bay "USE" Audiogon?
Ohala - your statement "One could sell at either place and their ethics would stay the same." makes the most sense to me. There are saints and twerps on both sites. I don't choose to view each site through painted lenses, I just do my best to try ...
newbiee needs veterans advice
> What do amp channels mean, why the more the better.Ouch. You ought to lurk around here more before spending your hard-earned money! To answer this though:"Channels" are how many outputs there are on an amplifier. Each channel is meant to drive...
Good ROCK speakers
Rather, I should have said "You're making me feel old". Or better yet, "You're making me feel stupid!" ; )Riley - I've heard that recommendation for KLF-30 for rock many times. Never even seen a pair. Must have really rocked, with that sort of leg...
Good ROCK speakers
Klipsch Forte II, Chorus, or Chorus II, without a doubt. There was a pair of Chorus listed today if I can remember that far back.Cornwall is another good recommendation. Heresy, eh... a little small. La Scala... ummm, a little big, and not the sam...
Guilty pleasures
Definitely "Witchhunt" by Piledriver - a classic heavy metal butt-rock anthem! Piledriver was a hardly serious 80's metal band from the buzzing metropolis of Etobecoke, ONT that had a couple goofy albums that got them some attention. I think my bo...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300?
All good advice, but don't forget the phono stage / section... just like a poor cartridge, a mediocre phonostage can completely hide the highest talents of even the lowest of introductory audiophile 'tables.
Did I make a mistake with my Nautilus 805?
> Then go to Sears buy all the tools.> Re-adjust, save all packaging, & RETURN TOOLS once complete!> I love Sears!Audiobugged, you should be ashamed of yourself, not bragging. Remind me not to do any business with you.
Fun with audio
I used to call my old basset hound a "subwoofer". I thought it was funny, but the hip cats, well...ps - thanks for the levity
