I'm just one or two changes and a couple of years behind you
for Bill Evans fan
Toss up between Portrait In Jazz and Explorations. Listening to the excellent Waltz For Debby as I type this.
In the under $2500 category, diminishing returns?
I have driven them with a Cambridge Audio 840A integrated with 200 watts at 4 ohms and now am using a Bel Canto REF 150S amp with 150 watts at 4 ohms and so far all good. I think these are probably minimum levels of performance, both are in the $1...
Album which you have listened to most?
Nick Drake Five Leaves Left that would be the one I imagine I have heard more than any other.
What is the one CD you can't find?
Bobby Whitlock S/T CD. I don't even know if this was ever released on CD in the US but I have been chasing a ghost in trying to track down a Universal Japan release that was supposed to have been out in July of this year.
2 Marvin Gaye albums coming to SACD MFSL
I thought What's Going On was supposed to ship this month. Any update on its release.
IMPULSE Records catalog in SACD
And one Blues title by John Lee Hooker - It Serves You Right To Suffer. It was in the Acoustic Sounds Catalog as one of the first 25 Impulse titles.
Van Morrison remasters coming soon....
Van does not control the masters for Moondance or Astral Weeks and maybe a couple of others. They were tied up in a long time feud with WB but they did just recently reissue Moondance on a remastered LP so maybe there is hope yet we can see one on...
Van Morrison remasters coming soon....
I have received two Japan Mini LP CD versions with SHM-CD (Super High Material). I can't read the explanation (in Japanese) but it is not a mastering process but a material and manufacturing process. However, to my ears, Tupelo Honey and Into The M...
Name three of yours the most favourite drummers
Stanton MooreManu KatcheBobby Previte
Frisell/Krauss subliminal Pink Floyd Tribute ??
Interesting thought and a great album.
Which Jazz Albums are similar to Kind of Blue
The Cannonball Adderly "Something Else" suggestion is probably closest. Others that I would consider ar Kenny Burrell "Midnight Blue" featuring guitar, Bill Evans "Portrait" and "Explorations" piano, Wynton Kelly "Kelly Blue" more piano, Chet Bake...
Joanna Newsom: Ys or No?
YAWN! I didn't get it at all. Hardly a change in any song in music texture and a voice that does nothing at all.
Top Five for 2005
John Hiatt "Master of Disaster"Boz Scaggs "Fade Into Light"Jackson Browne "Running on Empty" DVD-AudioBruce Springsteen "Devils and Dust"Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter "Oh My Girl"
Jazz recommendations?
Jaques Loussier does unique jazz interpretations of classical compositions. His best know are his Back works but my favorites are Satie and Chopin. Very interesting and relaxing stuff.
