Tube gear under $2k? Another choice may be the Consonance M100se. 40W push pull EL34 based integrated with remote. The amp portion is supposed to be the same as the "ELLA" kit from DIYHIFISUPPLY which has gotten rave reviews. List is $1800, IIRC.
What prevents DIY speakers to become the ultimate? I think that DIY speakers COULD be the ultimate, but usually aren't because many of the folks interested in DIY are also interested in bang for the buck. Now if a DIY'er spent $10,000 on drivers, crossovers, cabinets, etc. it very well could be SOTA.

Love for music shatter by highend equipment Sounds like the high-end industry has been successful in brainwashing your friends.
Audio and Wine? Count me in as a Reidel owner. The fact that I have a set of the Cabernet and Pinot Noir glasses should give you a clue to where my inclinations lie :).However, summer for me is white wine season, so raise a glass of Sauvingon Blanc or Viogner (or...
Some thoughts about value in high-end audio I agree with what Hardesty has said to some extent. I think we need to keep in mind what "High-End Audio" is supposed to be all about - getting closer to the musical event. If that is your goal, and you spend what you can afford, and trust your ow...
Are you Guys Rich or What!? In my house, wine and audio are real close - my wine cabinet is just about three steps from my stereo!
Audiophiles - Your Favorite Food?? French Country-Type food. Lots of fresh vegetables, olive oil, rustic pates, duck, game, etc. YUM! Oh, and good French wine to match.
How much money do you want to waste? As a self-labelled "quasi-objectivist" I would like to say that admitting a difference in cables because of the empirical evidence of your own ears even when measurements don't show differences is not necessarily an non-objectivist act. It merely ...
Most compatable amp for ACI Sapphire III Lisa,Let us know how the amp works in your system. The Jolida and the ACI speakers both are creating a lot of buzz, and I'd like to hear first hand experiences.Michael
LeAmp from Norh? First of all.. Let me say I have never heard the LeAmps. So take my opinion for what it is. But as a value - oriented consumer (read "cheap") I am very interested in trying them after reading the reviews. It seems to me that Michael Barnes (Mr. No...
New Home Depot concept coming to Audio? We just had a couple of Ultimate Electronics stores open here. Most of what they sell is Circuit City/Best Buy type stuff, but they do sell Krell, Adcom, and Martin Logan. When I tried to audition some speakers there, the boom-boom from the car st...
What's the Least You Could Live With? Detlof - Stop drinking wine? I've heard of sacrifices, but really!Actually, I heard a Yamaha CD player, Yamaha receiver (stereo, not HT - makes a big difference) and B&W 601s2 system that sounded much nicer than what I would have thought. I co...
low efficiency speaker vs. high efficiency speaker? I think Thomasheisig has the great set-up: efficient speakers AND fairly high-powered amps. This gives you a very effortless presentation and great microdynamics. What I would suggest is find the speakers whose characteristics you like then get am... |
