MC 402 vs. MC 7300 Back to your original question - I am unaware of an amplifier currently made by Mcintosh with a model number of 7300. There is the 6300 and the 7000. As to driving the MS5 with these different models, The 6300 would be a light, the 7000 will likel...
MC 402 vs. MC 7300 Winger - Upgrade the amp before upgrading the preamp. The amp has a more difficult job to do - driving a difficult load. The signal levels fed to the preamp just aren't that difficult to deal with - particularly if you are feeding a signal from a ...
MC 402 vs. MC 7300 Depends on the speakers that you are driving. I run a C45 into an MC402 into a pair of B&W 803's without ever approaching the limits of the amp while pushing the speakers about as far as they'll go. Other than available power, the Mcintosh ss ...
Do speaker cables really matter? As to the reference to adding a cable containing a passive filter. Clearly, adding a filter will affect the sound because it limits, attenuates, or shifts in phase the frequencies being transduced by the speaker. Referring to such as a "cable" is ...
McIntosh MA 6500 reliability etc.... My experience is burn in time for Mcintosh amps and preamps is zero. Sound great out of the crate (and they do basically come in a crate), sound the same months later - still great. And the rather ancient models I have heard sound great after 30 y...

static charge Ground the chassis of the DAC via the power cord. Ensure that all of your chassis grounds are made to the same point. That is, don't use separate ground wire runs back to your panel. If you have shielded interconnects, attach only one end of the s...

B&W 683 floor standers Pdn: As to max power ratings and amp capacity - probably would not be a good idea to crank up a 380 watt amp to the max driving the speaker, but, so long as the amp is not continuously driving the speakers at max there is no problem. My guess is t...
Help w/Power Conditioning: Shunyata, Furman, RGPC? Consider APC - particularly their units that offer battery backup.
Mcintosh autoformers..... Mcintosh still makes amplifiers with an autoformer ouput. Eg. MC402, MC252, and just about every other model they make. I believe that in the history of Mcintosh there were few models that did not have autoformer outputs.
which should i purchase (tetra or sonus faber) As to the sound of the speaker, that is far to subjective of a factor to lend itself to anyone's opinion other than your own. Suggestions from opthers as to other models / brands is of value in awareness of what to audition. In short, repeated aud...
What is the proper way to dispose of old tubes? Rar1 - Did your father have a Hickok tube tester ? We had one in lab I used to oversee. By around 1990, the institution no longer had any equipment that used tubes so one day we excessed about 500 tubes and the Hickok. I'd like to have it now, for...
Interconnect cable upgrade disapointment Seems like the original poster has already gone down the path of depending on someone else's subjective listening experience - the result is reflected in the subject line of the thread "interconnect cable upgrade dissapointment" - I doubt that he ...
HDMI Cable comparisons Keep in mind also that transmission line effects are important for video signals and for hi rate transfers. The length of run of the cable comes into play when considering transmission line effects -hence a reason to use a cable with the proper ch... |
