Favorite cable brand.
My favorite cable brands are from Europe.  The American brands such as Nordost and Transparent, Kubala Sosna, etc leave too much on the table performance wise.  As do cables designed by 'first priciples'While I still love Purist Audio Cables (they...
Takedown of pricey servers, streamers OCD HiFi guy
For me, in my experience, systems that are assembled with the belief that everything sounds more or less the same, will almost always result in systems that do just that. But as always an open mind is important here, so if anyone is in the GTA Cana...

Because you use capitals it must be true! Sorry, but many other components have lots of claims that are not true too. After you eliminate electrical noise, there is really not much you can do unless you are purposely manipulating the bit stream...

Wow.First I find the logic that SOTA music servers are "just computers" is akin to saying that a state of the art CPU or power transistor, is just a few pennies worth of silicon, copper and plastic; or that a capacitor is just a bit of metal and a...
Chord Dave or Ayre QX5 Twenty DAC???
ctsoonerYou mentioned in this thread that you liked the DAVE midrange and top end, but felt the bass was not the last word. Are you comparing the bass from the Digital Pre through a two channel set up or are you evaluating it through headphones?Thx...
Mark Levinson 326S with Nelco board
RoHS compliance plays a large factor here (lead free), which is now mandatory everywhere I believe.  Besides, I believe that the Nelco 25N has been replaced by an RoHS complant product.

""I just can't get my arms around the idea that everyone doesn't want the real thing, if they could get it. Maybe, the truth is that most don't believe they can have it and therefore have a reason why it's not important to them." Lakefrontroad (Sy...
Nuforce
Woodburger wrote "compared to my reference tube amp, the NuForce Reference 9s have a much more dynamic sound. Is it better? My experience has been affected by the bloom of tubes. I have to refresh my thinking in terms of dynamics, soundstaging, cl...
Jena Labs Model One Fundamental Power Cords
"I've been using similar power conditioners for the last 5 years. The Foundation Research LC-1s and LC-2s."The concept of an integrated power cord and conditioner is not new, in fact it was pioneered almost 10 years ago by Foundation Research with...
HELP Turning off the Left Brain
Yeah, I bought it as a result of the hype without hearing, guilty as charged. Although I did what due diligence I could by consulting my fairly extensive network of audiophiles who I know through my business. Those that had a chance to hear the AP...
HELP Turning off the Left Brain
I am trying to avoid AB comparisons which seems to help. My system is essentially where I am going to stay for at least a week (smile) and hopefully few years. I still have to critique the APL as it breaks in and I test different setups and ancill...

APL 3910 owners, has anyone tried APL upsampler?
Based on a search of the archives, Alex is not a fan of non-linear conversion, often refered to as 'upsampling' ie 44.1 khz to 96 khz etc. Referring to APLs website comments he is technically ony performing linear coversion, often referred to as '...
