Why Don't you hear more about Audio Physics Speakers?? My dealer used to carry AP, but now I haven't seen them in many years. I remember being pretty impressed by a smallish AP tower with dual front-firing midrange cones, some kind of side-firing driver, and the cone tweeter. I don't remember the mode...
Does anyone have Audioquest red wild or wel speaker cables? Can’t see myself spending a sports car on the new dragons @joey_v Definitely not! The new Zero tech’s "magic" didn’t reveal itself sonically in Thunderbird Zeros, at least for me. I still heard "too much copper, I want some silver" there. I th...
Amp preamp impedance matching...can anyone explain? @dpop It is an interesting topic - but it seems likely that studio gear with 600 ohm loading requirements (apparently to damp ringing?) is operating with very different needs (power, bandwidth?) than a high-end 2ch home audio preamp. Here we nee...
Does anyone have Audioquest red wild or wel speaker cables? Nice 8ft pairs of WildWoods started coming up for relatively cheap the past few months (low 2K's versus 17K MSRP), so I bought a couple pairs and replaced all ends with brand new 1007 spades. I double biwire with the 2 pairs. I REALLY like these ...
Amp preamp impedance matching...can anyone explain? I can’t, because I don’t know what gear that is or its intended use (you mentioned radio broadcast). A 600 ohm load requirement doesn’t sound like anything related to high end home audio, honestly. I can speak to the VAC Renaissance V because I ow...
Amp preamp impedance matching...can anyone explain? It’s absolutely not needed here. In fact, I think it would be a very bad idea to feed a Ren V into 300 ohms - that’s the lowest impedance that it will work “ok” with. I’ve used the Ren V into 100K ohm tube amps no problem. I now use the VAC Master...
Amp preamp impedance matching...can anyone explain? @dpop it specifies a recommended load impedance of greater than 300 ohms. That includes loads like 10K, 50K, 500K, etc. This is not like matching taps on power amp transformers, where maximum power transfer is the goal. Here we are only concerned ...
Amp preamp impedance matching...can anyone explain? Transformer coupled output is an excellent approach, especially for tube preamps which otherwise contend with the noted issues of output caps and rising impedance. The Ren V claims an even 150 ohms or less over the entire music bandwidth, and so s...
Not sure what to think or do... Wouldn't be audiogon if we didn't have several thread derailments including elitism 🙄
6SN7 GT instead of GTA/B? If the older 6SN7GT spec is safe in an amp, then it is ALWAYS safe to use 6SN7GTA or 6SN7GTB in those same slots. The later GTA and GTB versions of 6SN7 are exactly the same as GT, but with higher ratings for plate voltage and dissipation (this me...
Not sure what to think or do... Sorry @audioman2015 I agree with others that if it doesn’t sound very good right off the bat, something else is likely to be wrong. This is every audiophile’s ultimate nightmare, and just NOT a good look for Parasound right now. The open box re...
Soundstage drastically worsened when I replaced a solid state AV amp with tubes. Are you 100% sure the mode switch on the MC275 is set to stereo and not mono? It sure sounds like OP is inadvertently getting mono output, whether by erroneous switch setting or miswiring (even internally - wonder if the amp has been worked on?).
Egg carton for soundproofing? Soundproofing a room is very different than acoustic treatment for optimizing sound quality WITHIN the room. Egg crates will be completely useless for soundproofing, which requires significant construction considerations. But even for simple acou...
When were the best tube amps made? I love my VAC Renaissance 70/70 Mk II, it's 20 years old and still works great However I am taking it back to Florida this January to get the latest MKIIIs updates, then it will out live me! Handmade in the USA! @fthompson251 I hear that's one...
Too much power? @mulveling I think that’s an interesting observation. I find many/most systems don’t seem to perform until they reach a certain DB.. now you’re right about the exponential cost of loudness, but if you get the bass right (2 subs) it seems to be mo... |
