What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? Plus, I've gotten great support over the years from Musical Surroundings. I am getting both my Universal 12" arms rewired. Agree - Musical Surroundings' service & support has been fantastic. Great distributor. NO complaints there :) I sus...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? It seems no worse than what people pay for stuff on a Linn LP12 (like $10k+ for their new plinth). @dwette No doubt, the high parts prices seem endemic to this hobby. Sorry for the belly-aching! I do still love my Master Innovation, 8 years in...
Why do tube amps often subjectively sound more powerful than SS ? So when I got the Bryston amplifier, I thought, since it was more powerful, put on really powerful music that will take advantage of it like the Conan soundtrack. I put in the Bryston, cranked it up and…huh? Where was that power? Why did it ...
Sold Sold Sold I think I'd rather deal with an OP than be lectured on this crap.
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? Along with a small amount of rubbish, there is so much diversity and quality in current turntable design that even a shortlist would be a long list. It's sort of shocking how many different brands and models we have now for such a tiny market. ...
Upscale Audio is up front with customers @mulveling ... always appreciate your posts; one of the few that I read every word ... thanks Thank you @blackbag20 , your kind words are much appreciated :) My comment related to the video in the OP -- I assume you watched it. It is him dire...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? What parts have you needed for a Clearaudio? Just curious. In nearly 15 years of Clearaudio ownership (Ovation/Innovation/Universal) I’ve only needed belts, and some bearing oil my dealer provided free. As for upgrades, I got some pretty generou...
Are EL34 based amps more musical than KT series based ? Or it's purely a matter of design? Then maybe I should upgrade output transformers in my VAC Avatar with custom ones ? This is a crazy idea, I think. Inna case this was serious - don’t do this. You’re not going to out-expertise nor out-voice Kevin Haye’s choices for his own ampl...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? SOTA - really well engineered tables (Sapphire, Nova, Cosmos) that properly address the real problems of vinyl playback (isolation, whole-record clamping) without solving the wrong problems just for gimmick-factor. Great classic looks with any woo...
Upscale Audio is up front with customers I think Upscale is fine, and I appreciate their tube burn-in services. I’ve bought several dozens of power tubes from them over 15 years, and never had a dud. But as far as Kevin being a "friend in the business" and "upfront"? Hah! Only as far as...
Looking for advise regarding Rogue M180’s @buellrider97 Pardon my language but JJ’s sound like crap. I co-admin a Rogue group on Facebook and I frequently comment: "JJ’s go right in the trash". Any of the Russian 12AX7 options are better (EH 12AX7 and 12AU7 are a bit too bright, tho...
I'm curious. What is your "normal" listening volume? I prefer listening into the 90 dB’s, sustained e.g. for loud rock music. I’m not a reserved audiophile listener lol. I take breaks, avoid listening fatigue and don’t do this daily. If gear has an aggressive / rough top end, it won’t last long here.
F-XLR to M-RCA recommendations I've hit up Moon-Audio for suff like this before. An XLR (female) to RCA (female) adaptor should do the trick - plug into DAC, then you can use your choice or RCA cables. Or I guess you could use an XLR cable run - then you'd need XLR (female) to ...
Tubes and less sensitive speakers Rogue Audio amps have prodigious bass and slam for tube amps, and are a great value per dollar. Especially as you step up to M180 monos or (even better) the discontinued Zeus and Apollos I haven’t heard Maggies myself, but hear from others I trus...
Getting started with Headphone system; what are the basics You can use a preamp before a headphone amp, but it’s rare. Usually headphone amps include a volume control and have plenty of gain on their own, so it’s not a common pattern to stick in a preamp - with needless gain and an extra volume control - ... |
