i have 2 mats-- the carbon fiber mat and the top=of-the line marigo gold mat.there are times when i prefer one mat over the other, or no mat, depending upon the other components in the system.

hi philojet:i think warm means colored, i.e., subtraction in the treble and additive in the upper bass. i doubt a cable that sounds neutral can also be warm.i think a cable like purist audio design proteus or colossus would probably qualify ass wa...
Trade offs?
after my long rant, i forgot to add the following:if a stereo system is highly resolving, it can't always sound "musical", because all recordings are not in themselves, sufficiently "musical", to reveal the attributes of music.if instead, a stereo...
Trade offs?
there is either a semantic issue or logic issue.first, let's discuss musicality:music refers to pitch, timbre and harmonics. other by products are dynamics and tempo.achieving musicality requires recordings which are accurate respect to timbre and...
Trade offs?
there is no accounting for taste. i believe our hobby is primarily about enjoyment and not about audio "correctness".thus, there are many ways to achieve satisfaction when listening to music. there is also no free lunch.if one chooses to minimize ...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?

The Economy.. will hi end audio mfgs lower prices?
the demand for components in the $10,000 and up price category is probably not price sensitive. there would be no reason to lower prices.in addition, i would expect more manufacturers to go direct in order to increase their profit margin.

high voltage's affect on amplifier performance
can voltage variation affect the performance of preamps and cd players or dacs, especially if power supplies are not "robust" ?

Sony Playstation 1 for a CD player ???
i have used a playstation 1 with tube amp and preamp. there was no problem. there was no attenuation in the treble.
Why gold?
a way to answer this question:create two sets of connectors. coat one with gold and leave the other uncoated. listen and then form an anecdotal judgment.does anyone really care ?
how much power do you need two drive magnpan1.6s
you can answer your own question by auditioning amps from low to high power, by that i mean, from 10 watts to 500 watts. i own 1.6s. i have heard a 4 watt single ended amp, a 350 watt class a am0p, a 500 watt class d and others, mainly tubed, havi...
